...can you elaborate on the "bounced audio" approach? Do you upload every bounced track to your collaborator?

Yes but only collabs ive ever done i've done the mixdown; so it's more like people giving me bounced audio.

what about the creation process? The part in which the parts involved modify till it sounds right? if youre throwing audio files back and forth, it sounds like it would take forever.
or do you mean the part that involves you the most is the mixdown...?

What?

It shouldnt take that long to decide on sounds... it never has for me, i cant speak for you...

As far as the musical aspect of it, it's not hard to swap midis. Once the musical aspect is decided then "deciding on sounds" shouldnt take very long... why would it? Although to be honest it's easier to designate parts ie. "you do the bassline synth, i'll do the riff synth"

you misunderstood me. what I wanted to know was how you collabed as you stated that you could do so with anyone using bounced audio. no mention of using midi there which is why asked in the first place.
still, the process you use involves swapping midis which doesn't entierly equate to being able to collab with any other sequencer as automations and the like would differ, no?

Well the only reason i use midi is to swap ideas and riffs with the person im collabing with.

It's not different to collabing in person really; the whole process still needs to go into one sequencer...

So all the automation would be done on the one sequencer in both situations.

Working with bounced audio DOES make it possible to collab with anyone using any sequencer and any VSTs. If every layer is bounced i fail to see how you can't... and i've never run into a problem?

As far as I know, the only one that you listed that posts here occasionally is Brisk.

As dumb of a question this is, how exactly are collabs done? What if the two producers are in two completely different countries and can't come meet up in a studio? What if they use different DAWs?

Can be done by many means..

Swapping project files, or one personw orking on something the other the other...

Or someone being in for ideas and stuff rather than engineering...

many ways
