Well I just saw 300 last night for a 12:01 showing and wow....there are very few words that do this instant classic justice. This movie is simply one of the best WAR films of All Time. I greatly urge anyone who has access to a theater to go.
The "wow" starts now with 300 (sorry bill)

yeah looks pretty cool. everything was filmed against a blue screen, so I'm expecting good visuals.
plus it's a film that gets people interested in history!

the battle of thermopylae, on the 3rd day
The persian king xerxes lead somewhere close to a million soldiers against 300 greek spartans, hence 300 =P
king leonidas (of sparta) ordered his troops to split up when there was an attack from around the mountains by the persians.
the spartans did fairly well considering the insurmountable odds, mainly due to great leadership. the persians were speed fighters and leonidas was able to force the land battle into a narrow area so the persians couldn't use their quickness.
I'm wondering if they have anything in the movie on the sea battle...

Yeah. I know a little about the battle and the background to the film although ive probably forgotten nearly all of it. Hope its better than Troy and Alexander are supposed to be.

hehe that's not exactly how it happened
there were actually several thousand greeks, from all different states fighting the persians(they were still outnumbered beyond belief though). the 300 spartans (plus 700 warriors from another state called thespiae(i think that was the name...)) holding them off at the pass was to cover the retreat of the rest of the force, who were able to get out... the spartans, including their king, leonidas, were obviously killed to the last man...did a job on the persians though. the action bought time for the rest of the greek states to gather their armies and they eventually defeated the persians in a naval conflict, and then on land.
but that's just me being an obnoxious history obsessed loser

i enjoyed troy immensely despite the poor acting in it, it was a good action movie and had enough of a plot to satisfy me i guess

well wat really happen and i should know cause i just finished this atm
the greek had previously defeated the persian at the battle of marathone, so the persian were pissed plua they wanted to destroy athen cause they invaded and island they they owned and destroyed the temple.
anyway the persian had light armour and prefered to attack with arrows and then send in the calvary, the greeks wore heavy armour and was better at hand to hand combat.
the greek was able to make the persian come to them, they fought and the greeks were winning so xerxes sent in his immortals (they were named this because every time one died it would be replaced 10 000 strong and were the best persian fighters), anyway a greek traitor named ephisates or sumting close to that name all i know is he starts with and E lol told xerxes of secreat trail they he could pass and then encircle the greek and win, luckly king leonidas who was appointed by the greeks to be incharge had 1000 men there just incase, anyway the immortals killed them but they one of the greek soilder was able to tell the greek about persian coming around the back so wat king leonidas do was he sent all the rest of the greek away and left the spartans to fight so as to slow them down and not kill the rest of the greek soilders.
Anyway dat happened and then the spartans were fighting lyk crazy (spartans never run away this even happens in a later battle called platea i think) and then king leonidas dies and they fight even crazyer so xerxes decides just to send his forces back and then he shot arrows to them as they were chasing them up dis hill i think.
well dats a read lets hope i can get full mark for the essay lol

I liked it a lot too, though i dont recall any "poor acting"? As for Alexander, it was boring as hell, but some people say its one of the best movies ever made, so i guess its one of those love or hate movies.

Ive been studying this period at college and this film looks like it will make my life complete.
Ive heard that it has a mythical element to it. can anyone confirm?
the only problem i see with it is that there werent 1 million persians as said on the trailer. the historian herodotus estimated around 1/4 million fighting men.
