Yeah they are great!
My favourites are Naruto, Bleach, Chrno Crusade, Gundam Seed, Full Metal Panic, Eureka 7 and Neon Genesis Evangelion. (I love Mecha Animes XD)

I like the Studio Gibli Collection. Not sure if it's classed as Anime but I've seen a few like Spirited Away, Kikis Delivery Service and My Neighbour Totoro and they were all brilliant.

"Appleseed" is a movie similar to the Animatrixs. Quality graphical animation with a futuristic storyline. Definitely worth watchin'

It's defo anime. The word anime is now used mostly for any professionally animated show coming out of japan.
My family in Japan used to collect the Gibli videos and my cousins all loved anime so I was basically raised on anime and manga. I still have the entire original Dragon Ball & Dragon Ball Z manga.
Good shows that haven't been mentioned yet...
Wolf's Rain, Fullmetal Alchemist, Beck, Ergo Proxy, Furi Kuri, Air Gear... Alot more I don't care to remember right now =P
Some good shows still airing like Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpuchou, Death Note, Shippuden & Bleach...

My mate made me watch an episode of Bleach, it was alright, just not something I would follow or be that keen on to be honest. Each to their own.
