Being an expat, Its interesting looking in on my country from the outside.
The grass I have come to think is always greener. Here, rent is cheaper, beer and fags too, they have a sensible policy on soft drugs and although we have to pay for health service,we get around 80 percent back and its good.
However our rights are not as strong, the red tape is a nightmare, if you think immigrant nation is bad in the UK, you can guess the main country they are coming through ( yep good old Belge!! ), Unlike the UK they are just ignored and don't exsist, I am pleased at least my country accepts there is a problem. On that note, the UK has always been an immigration nation, I am not a multi-cultural fan but I like other cultures and the differences, it is that that helps make london one of the greatest cities in the world. There are dangers to that, god knows, i am from Brum and that's a hot bed of trouble at times. Yet to become isolationist, non-EU, non-US is downright stupid.
The UK really struggles withy its Island mentality, it is not in the middle of Atlantic it is 24 miles off France, we should really grow up, cos once we accept we are European, we can take real steps forwrd, We should never give up our relationship with the US, It is not perfect but no relationship is, and like our Commonwealth partners we should be proud not ashamed. Not all of our past has been glorious but then no country can really claim that either. I do think I am very lucky to have been born British. Compared to the rest of the world, even poor in my society is wealthy.

I say British as I am a quarter Welsh, of which I am also very proud of, Wales, Ireland and Scotland are not only great nations in their own rights but they are also so much more European in outlook, something us English should learn. National Pride is what a person makes of it, and I for one am sick of the far right saying it owns my flag. They do not. Its ours. I do not apologise for being English. The English have apologised long enough, get over it. One look at the Rugby in Ireland last week, shows how mature two nations have become after all the past. Long may that continue, the Irish have my total respect for letting that happen. Of course in Rugby I am Welsh, would never support England unless its againest France. Like I said, its what we take that is important.

In the UK your shops are better, electric goods are cheaper, you have Burger King and we've got crappy Quick. UK music has the best talent in the world, our TV is excellent, The BBC are unrivalled in the world, clothes and fashion are cutting edge and we invented Happy Hardcore ( what could be better? )

I love living here but I really miss home, the language, the music, the hills and mountains espcially pembrokeshire, the Football and rugby ( I only get highlights )

If in any doupt go out into the world and take a look the UK is near the top, that's why so many people what to get in. Don't knock it, even if Blair, Brown and Cameron are trying to ruin it.

Sorry I should has said ' want to get in ', and in that regard as a dad both my kids will know where home is cos, even if I don't come back to live in the UK both my kids will know it as home.

On a different note, as an Englishman can I say what a brillant Argentinan Tevez is, so unlucky yesterday, I hope the Premiership doesn't lose a talent like that in the summer. see, we have the Premiership as well, surely the best football league in the world sorry Becks its true.
