It was nearly 3 years ago I discoverd Happy Hardcore. I soon started to search for CDs with Old skool Happy Hardcore and also started buying Bonkers! Within a year of getting Bonkers 13 I owned all of them and my interest started going towards Freeform and Bouncy Techno. I am now slowly getting into Jungle and Drum and Bass.

I was wondering how has everyone else's taste in music (such as Hardcore, Dance ect) changed over the last few years?

dunno i suppose i'm becoming more adventorous with regards 2 hardcore n other types of dance music. with hardcore i started off with happy hardcore "shootin star" "heart of gold" etc. then wen i got my own decks, started out by buyin jus raverbaby n quosh records but i now find myself buyin thin n crispy n switched on records (not that adventorous but still) n am slowly comin round to freeform but thats as far as ill go ill never ever buy or listen 2 gabba or drum n bass (propa pecks me head), sorry jus cant bring meself 2 do it. but i think the longer u listen 2 certain types of hardcore the more u wanna branch out n discover new sub-genres to stop the others from becoming tedious n boring... so who knows maybe thers hope for me n gabba yet.

i started off wuith pop punk music like greenday and offrsping when I was 13 then slowly developed a taste for all forms of metal from system of a down to slayer.

Then i heard some slammin vinyl tape packs from 96 n heard bonkers resurection when I was 16 and thats when it all started. I then realised how much i love dance music and also listened to trance and any other dance music like that.

I have know developed a taste for the old skool as well as the nu skool and in particular drum n bass. I find that i spend more time raving to that than anything even though I don't have any dnb tunes in my library.

And I listen to Radio 1 and 2 at work during the day and I like quite a lot of bands too like Muse n The Killers n The Kaiser Chiefs

Hardcore will always be my first love tho.

I've done so much evolution in the past year it's ridiculous. Nothing but classic rock and bands like The Offspring (which is what my dad listens to) until I hit 11. Around then, my dad got into house, and I started listening to some sort of station on the TV that played a bunch of trance, breakbeat, and eurodance (which I hated even then). I got loads into classic punk (Dead Kennedys, The Adicts, etc) around 12. Watched Better Living Through Circuitry, and my life has never been the same. I still listen to rock, but now my genre tastes have exploded all over the place. Of that period from 13 to now, the only landmarks I can think of are Hardcore Underground, and some mix by a DJ Hysteria that I downloaded online called Triggercore, that totally turned me onto the bouncier ends of the hardcore equation. I could go into much greater detail, but forums are not the places for epics the size of War and Peace.

Full life story in music. (All dates are rough estimations)

Ill skip the first 8-9 years. Its probably for the best.
~1988 Got into MJ in a big way(that sounds wrong) Along with various other artist who were in the charts back then. Would have first heard Dance music i guess around this time.

~1990 Started to get into chartie rap. While still listening to various artist in the charts

~1992 Got a copy of The Prodigy Experience from a friend along with a couple of other tracks on a tape. Listened to other rave stuff. Also started listening to Nirvarna at somepoint. While continuing to listen to chartie rap and other chart stuff.

~1994-5 Started to listen to Oasis probably 6 months after Def Maybe was released along with other guitar based bands.

~1995-6 Started to get into house/Trance/hip hop properly through people at college. Stated to get into DnB more after buying brown paper bag.

~1997 Listend to lots of House/Trances and Speed garage. The speed garage was because my 2 mates with cars both liked so it was on if we went any where.

~ Found an old 7" Hendrix release in the attic at somepoint and fell in love.

~98-2001 still listened to loads of trance/house. Stopped buying Hip Hop around 2000.

~2003 Started to get back into Hardcore after only hearing the odd track and whatever i had in my collection. for the last 5 years or so. Started buying RB, Evolution, EP next gen releases.

Purchased turntables und mixer

2004 Saw the My Angel vid and started buying KFA's.

2005 Started buying DnB again after about 7 years.

2006 Stopped buying Mainstream Hardcore and music in general apart from the odd release here and there. Except KFA stuff.

i used to listen to punk and stuff, then about 5 years ago a buddy of mine from belgium sent me some house/trance/club stuff, and i got into that a bit. one of the things he sent me was tiesto - lethal theory.. then one day another friend who's from the uk had Lethal Industry as his MSN name. so we talked a bit about and it and showed me to di.fm. eventually found the hardcore channel and got into that, and simultaneously started listening to that, which got me into hardcore and UK hardcore (there was no gabber channel there at the time...).

That's the big story, on a more recent timeline, i've been listening a lot broader stuff(breaks, etc), and have gotten back into endymion, angerfist, etc, which i hadn't really listened to for a while (i think it coincides with me being really angry lately!).

Started off with what my parents were blasting out...country.

Then discovered trance music....thought it was brilliant.

Then in the early 90's, Discovered hardcore - then fell in love.

While everyone in school was talkin about chart music, the only thing I knew of was happy hardcore.
Though the music has changed a lot since then...It's still only the older tunes that 'touch' me...I could hear all this recent hardcore in a club all night, enjoy it - and that'd be it.

But there is somethin about the older tunes (some more-so than others)...they hit a spot inside, and it explodes...A grin like a complete nut, go a bit loopy, and everyone thinks i've taken every drug available.

Since starting to dabble in production, I've learned to appreciate music more and listen to it the way it is...not what I'd like it to be.

startin to get into hard dance now too..

but deep inside, deep - deep down, there is still the bright burning flame of passion for the old Irish / scottish techno....It's just somethin wonderful about it- - nearest thing now would be makina.

On to things i'm not so passionate about (no-matter how hard I try) - is the likes of Indie, Rap, R'n'B...they just seem to be like fashion trends which, personally, I feel people listen to - to be in the 'it' crowd...probably wrong- but I despise it....just not for me.

Thanks for your time.

Took the same trip as many people my age i suppose. Rap and some chart hits until 1999 when i purchased my first dance album, "the essential selection" had yellow, blue and red buckets and spades on the front cover. Was when the likes of Bring it back and Down, down, down, down first hit Ibiza! Gradually from ma brother changed into hardcore while still listening to house, trance and some rap. Not botherd with Rap for a few years now and just been sticking to Trance, Hardcore and some Indie. Also really got into Gabba now.

1989 - Got my first ghetto blaster and a copy of a Queen album... I then continued to buy even more queen albums :s. Queen and various older pop bits was all I listened to when I was younger.

1991 - Got into heavy metal.

1992 - Got into rap.

1993/94 - Started hearing all my brothers Hardcore stuff and getting into that. Didn't really own any myself though... Just stole all his tapes.

1995 - My dad started bringing me home Jungle, DnB, Hardcore & Gabber tapes after realising I'd really got into it. Had well fallen in love with it all by now.

1997 - Started listening to loads of Ska, Reggae, Ragga, Dub etc.

1999 - Started listening to allot of Punk.

2000 - Got into Hard Trance/House, London Techno, Acid Techno etc.

2004/5 - Got into Psy Trance.

2006 - Got into - Electro House, Dirty House sorta stuff.

That's a pretty rough run down anyway. I've never really stopped listening to anything that I've liked. Still listen to everything listed today (except queen).
