ite a producer/dj i know (miss xs) she made a track and her manager paid sumone to rmx or remake it.. she didnt mind that other person workin on it.. BUT her manager never asked her. and now she want to release it sumwhere but her manager keeps the track couse he wants her to sign sumwhere else
so this is where the problems @ ... who got the rights on the track? i think miss xs has it.. couse of the author rights which protect ya if it isnt signed yet..
remember she never gave permission or signed anything for that track so it belongs 100% to her
where should she go or wot should she do? would she win if she sued the manager for stealin her track?

It is very difficult for a writer to lose their artistic ownership of the track, however it is easy for people to control them as their property. She should look over any contracts she has made between her and her manager prior to this. Often when signed, work under that name becomes exclusive to that label/management, so she can't use it anywhere else. Or that all material within x amount of time becomes the rights of the manager or something to that effect.

You can quote me on this :)
The manager owns the remix but has no rights to release it or sell it or do anything with it. So unless the artist buys the remix from the manager or the manager gives the rights to that remix back to the artist or they come to an understanding then that remix can't be used anywhere and is a dead remix.

She still owns the copyright to the track, at best she could probally get the track back from the manager and get him to destroy any copies he might have but she would not be able to release the track unless they came to an understanding about the money that was paid for the remix.
