I highly doubt that the government is contributing anything towards the deal excpet possible tax breaks as an incentive to get people bidding for the licence.

Your looking at an investment of more than £250M in the local area with more than 2,500 jobs created in Manchester.

At something like 30% tax on all profits made the owners of the casino, thats a lot of extra money for the government to be able to fund other things like the NHS and education.

Lets hope that they do contribute to the NHS! But really more prisons are needed not a super casino in a low income area!

More jobs should hopefully mean less people feeling that they need to turn to crime. We need to slove the problems that make people turn to crime and investing money into the regeneration of part of Manchester should help.

It should also increase wages in the surrounding area and more jobs for people in the surrounding area as people spend there wages. If it was seen as a plus point for the area you wouldnt have had bids from all areas of the country.

Its a good thing all round imo, the only down side is there are going to be people who get caught up in gambline addiction. saying that, it is their own fault if they let it happen so..

Building a casino in Bounremouth too, looks like that is the trend these days, spend more money on stuff that isn't really needed!

the goverment (useless twats) were already considerin bringin in a congestion charge 2 the area surroundin manchester. this would me on average people avin 2 pay £6 a day maybe £9 at certain times of the day 2 use the roads in this area. now with a casino bein built thers gonna b shitloads of people comin in n out of manchester, so the congestion charge will definitly "have" 2 b brought in... my point is i go 2 work 5 times a day earn around 150 a week n av 2 pay out at least half of it. now theyre gonna bring this charge in ill av 2 pay £30 a week on top of that jus 2 get 2 work in the first place. so im gonna b skint jus so some stupid wankers can spend all day at a casino n lose all theyr ****in money.

n clarke i doubt the goverment will put money into the NHS n education theyll probly put it into more roads that they can put more congestion charges on.

Im sure if the companies involved didnt believe they could be successfully they wouldn't build them. Casinos will be poping up all over they place soon as they have fairly recentlyl (ast year or so) changed the laws regarding them.

Im sure the local planning people will have looked into it in far more detail than you possible have and regard it as positive thing locally or i wouldnt be happening.

Nobody has to use the roads do they. Its their choice. Road pricing will increase not only to raise money for local government but they can also say they are trying to reduce car usage to help global warming.

The licence will allow Manchester to build a venue for up to 1,250 unlimited-jackpot gaming machines.

Meanwhile, licences were granted for new "large" casinos to Great Yarmouth, Hull, Newham, Middlesbrough, Solihull, Milton Keynes, Leeds and Southampton.

The Casino Advisory Panel also granted licences for "small" casinos to Bath and North East Somerset, Dumfries and Galloway, East Lindsey, Luton, Scarborough, Swansea, Torbay and Wolverhampton.

Seems strange what they've done... surely it would make more sense to give the super-casino license to somewhere like Blackpool and then only give licenses for places around there. I'd of thought keeping them all around each other wuld make for a tourist hot spot or something...
