CDJ Pros.
- cheap to buy music
- you can get free tunes that people make that havnt made it to vinyl release
- if you produce you can play your own tunes just by burning it onto cd
- very easy to carry about
- less hassle free when you just want to have a quick mix, you can put two cds in and not have to move about taking vinyls out their case (yes i am quite lazy lol)
- you can download tunes you have bought on vinyl and play them on your cdjs so your vinyl stays in good condition for when / if you play out or come to sell it
- once in the mix, i find them easier to make small adjustments to the pitch without making it sound messy
CDJ Cons.
- they cost a friggin fortune
- they have a smaller lifespan then decent decks
- cost a lot to fix
- people always want to borrow them
- dont quite have the same feel to vinyl, not as much fun..
there u go, ill leave someone else to do the vinyl pros n cons :)

Vinyl Pros
- Look more "professional"/"oldschool"
- The touch and feel of the record when you manipulate it (you need soft hands, like caressing a baby)
- The ability to see whats coming up (breakdowns, etc)
- The ability to scratch (if that pushes your buttons... ruins good vinyls if you ask me)
- A decent, well looked after set of decks will last you 10 years or more
- Picture discs (like my avatar says, i like pretty things)
- Can play old records that aren't out on CD's (not really DJ related, but i enjoy it)
Cons
- Expensive to buy a decent set of turntables
- Vinyls wear out over time
- EXPENSIVE to keep buying tunes (in Australia, around 16 - 40 for the latest tunes)
- Vinyl pops and static
- Maintenance of your records
- Needles/cartridges to replace every so often (expensive)
- Bigger equipment = heavier and harder to move around
- Ditto with the records
To be honest, if i could i'd have both CDJ and Turntables, but finances don't allow really :(

Just to correct some of the statements made in this thread and to add a liitle.
You can scratch with cd's if you have a deck with the function or you can set up some cd decks so control the jog wheel with a vinyl deck. Which allows you to make your own scratch cd's.
And cd decks are more expensive than decks for similar quality.
Cd's dont last forever especially if you dont look at them properly.

Hmmm... Didn't know that. I'll remember not to stare at my CD's for too long.

Two of the best reasons I can see for using CD decks, thats why I want them.
I still love my records though, and I don't think I would ever replace them with CD's.
