i'll have to say i'm with adam on this one. i think if there was a bunch of represses done, all that's going to get played is all the old stuff over and over again. nothing wrong with the occasional old stuff in sets, but i think it's time to look towards the future of hardcore.....
another thing, a good portion of the stuff isn't really that hard to find. just keep your eyes pealed and you can find quiet an assortment of tunage from just digging through old record bins.....

you overestimate my local music stores somehow
ie.... there's a lil section "electronica" in some places.. where they have 'yknow... some cds.... moby... radiohead.... if yer lucky.. happy 2b hardcore...
now granted i don't know my local music scene as well as i'd like, but i dunt know anywhere i can go through a bargain bin n find some classic choonz ;)
i just think some represses are a good thing
why not eliminate availability as an issue

I can't see why we can't have a bit of everything : if people like oldskool then they should be able to listen to it and not get stick for NOT liking new hardcore.
Its a free world and if you don't like oldskool don't listen to it!
Virus has got it spot on those labels he mentioned are pushing some new material but with the old breaks and beats and its good stuff too!
On the records thing : it is a shame that they are not readily available. However they can only be re-released if the original artist / label wants to do that. You can't just get anybody re-releasing tunes because they want to!.
That would be bootlegging.
Sorry for the blatant advertising here but if you check out my shop I have loads of old hardcore. Some of it is new, some of it is second hand but I also have some original releases at the same price as new releases. They are not represses but old surplus stock from the Kniteforce family of labels for example plus theres loads of other vinyl, new and old there. So if you want to get some oldskool in check it out.
For those of you who want represses then there is loads of stuff about and I believe some of the Ravers Choice and Asylum back catalogues are being repressed shortly as well.
I'm divided as to whether this is a good thing or bad thing. Personally, I like having tunes in my collection that are rare and not many people have but it is a cheaper way for people to get hold of classic tunes at the end of the day!

I Disagree Brian, I Think You Will Get A Revival Of Some Of tha Classic Choons At Events, However Only The Popular Ones.. And If They Are Popular, Does That Not Mean That People Will Enjoy Listening To Them !?
I Would Like To See A Mixture Of Oldskool And More Recent Releases Actually, Sort Of A Blend Of Ages.. In Most Cases Im Aware This Wont Be Possible Due To The Steady Increase In Hardcores BPM Over The Years, However You Can Get Away With A Bit Of Mix And Blend On Most Of The Choonz.
I Think There Should Be A Re-Release Policy On Most Of The Choons Been Released Today.. So the Same Thing That Has Happened With My Beloved Oldskool Doesnt Happen To The Current Hardcore Scene In A Few Years.
But Most Importantly, i Think A Flood Of Oldskool Classics Can Do Nothing More Than Improve The Scene On A Whole, Look At 95 Dance Here In The Uk.. Its Currently Making A Big Comback, And The People Whome Are Re-Releasing It Are Making A Bucketload Of Cash.. So You Cannot Tell Me That the Demand For Oldskool Isnt There, Atleast Here In The UK !
Slipmatt Is Coming To Hull In A Few Weeks To Do A DJ Workshop, Im GonnA Ask Him What He Thinks On The Matter, But I Already Know His Answer Will Be A Positive One As He Has Been Trying To Revive Oldskool for Ages !
Anyways, SOMEONE GET RE RELEASING OLDSKOOL !!
Lol
.. I Could Go on And On For Ever !

If Slipmatt has been trying to revive oldskool for ages why doesn't he make some tunes. Thats the only way it will be properly revived. It's very easy for him (and others) to go around playing old tunes all over the place and people re-releasing old tunes to cash in again but why don't these people try and do something to push it further as the likes of KFA have done.
Don't get me wrong : Slipmatt is one of the best DJ / Producers around and has been a constant force in the scene. Everybody keeps saying 'Bring back oldskool' but then no-one buys it when new tunes come out. Unless its the classics they don't want to know.

I Agree Slipmatt Shud Mek Some Oldskool Choons. That Wud Be Sweet, There Is An Oldskool Revival Happnin Right Now.. However, I Think That We Can Learn A Lot From Some Of The Classic Choons, And Hopefully Grasp That Element That Made Them Classics In there Own Right !
If You Have A Look Round Dis Board You Will Find Various Posts From Nick Of Blaze, He Is Trying To Resurect The Oldskool Sound, So Are Hectech Records And Slammin Vinyl.. I Think If All These Lables / Artists Can Grasp That Oldskool Vibe And Start Churnin out Some Quality Hardcore.. The Scene On A Whole Is Goin to Geta A Hell Of A Lot Better, I Know Ill be Buyin The Stuff In Bulk !!!
Hardcore, I Love You, Long Live Break beat And 4 beat !!

So ideally at the moment, it seems a lot of people are looking for a new release, a brand new tune, but with maybe an old skool remix on the a side with loads of breaks, stabs, bit of piano, that sort of thing remixed by a top old skool remixer, but maybe on the AA side a top new skool remixer sort of a "keep it in line with what we expect" sort of mix....
MMmmmmmmmmmmm
Interesting... OK, give us until Monday, we'll see what we can come up with.
;)

I think the problem is that people keep on dividing the music up. All my set's now consist of roughly 25% classic old skool, 25% lesser known, but often better old skool, 25% new skool and 25% Drum'n'Bass. I also throw in a few KFA's, but quite rightly, they dont fit into any of those categories. All these musics can be played in one arena...all these musics have something to say. All of them are, in my opinion, Hardcore. Okay, D'n'B has seperated itself (the evil of being cool strikes again), but the era most people love is 92-95. This was a time when 3rd Party was played next to Dj Vibes, and you would hear ragga vocals next to female singing, next to breakbeat next to 4x4.
And because you heard lots of styles, so the party wasn't boring.
So I say:-
DONT bring back the old school music. Just the old skool attitude. And in the words of the late, great Labrynth..."Only the happies people need apply"

Yeah Nick.. I Think That The Oldskool Attitude Towards Hardcore Should Be Used Lot More, As You Yourself Said.. In The OOOOOOld Days, You Threw A Few Bits Together And If It Sounded Right And Had Teh Right Vibe You Stuck With It.. I Think The Hardcore Scene Has Become A Lot Like Those Tv Dinner Things.. Easy To Cook And All Tast The Same.. Ya Know Ya Cant Beat Grannys Home Cooking, Theres Something About It That Seems That Bit More Unique.
If You Get What I Mean !
Lol
Bring Back The Oldskool Vibe to The Choons, And Definately teh Oldskool Atmosphere To The Events As Luna-c Sed !
Ps, Kinda Cool.. Im Chattin To Nick, The Creator Of Sesame's Treat And The Oldskool Master.. Luna-c !!
Infact, im Gonna Go Listen to Sum Oldskool Classics Now. for Oldskool's Sake !
lol

I feel it was the best ,gives me rushes n stuff ,i cant say the new stuff does ...Anyway I produce and after lots of inspiration from listening to the discog on the KF site i made a breakbeat tune still working on it ,and just today i saw a new future primitive ,i was like wooohooo ,pianos and everything so that proves its still here ,and when i brush up on my producing ,expect some lovely old style stuff ...

well I'm not relying on the Outside to do the revival!! I'm doing my DIY revival, plus all my mates are into oldskool over newskool, I worked my arse off last year on a job to buy a PC and software, I've been making oldskool vibed tunes for ages now (1994/5/6 happyhardcore and gabba) I don't give a damn if people say no ones gonna like it or it's wrong to do that sort of thing in 2003 because it's for my own pleasure and me mates!
don't rely on the big name producers to do the revival! get a PC, some music software (any teenager can make music on a PC nowadays) and do it your ****ing self! heh!
