anyone know any sites/software to encode an avi file to an MPEG or some other compressed format?

aparrently it's not a simple process like wav to mp3,that's all i know about it really.maybe you gotta encode the audio first then the video? something like that.
but i need software to do that and don't know where to get it

well, i dunno wot you wanna convert avi to mpeg for, im assuming the same reasons i wanna..
i use easydiv-x to rip dvd's, convert the audio to mp3 and the video to avi and then join the 2..
if only you could convert the video file to mpeg instead !!
there must be sum sort of software out there that strips the 2 files apart again and converts em, then re joins em in a new format.. like real audio duz with mp3..

the reason is coz i can record onto my pc from the camcorder,but it saves it as an avi file and they're massive in size. if i can mpeg it then i'd be able to take out the camcorder,record me doing a set then put it up on the net

try kazaa i downloaded one before and to make an avi into an mpeg would take about 20 hours but that was a full movie.

well,i got the name of one and downloaded it from kazaa coz it costs about u.s. $90 to buy!!!
