Upgrading my comp currently myself, 1.5gb ram, a surround sound system and a new mouse totalling in at almost 1k, and on the 14th of this month new radeon graphics card for 600 :D
I love my comp lol

1.5gb DDR 333Mhz
2 x Maxtor 80gb ATA hdds
DVD writer
5.1 surrond sound
wireless mouse and keyboard
and a funky case with 4 fans! (not including cpu, psu and gpu fan)
the case only cost 40 quid from ebuyer, so swansea i would advise either doing to "dabs.com" or "ebuyer.com", if you're in the uk.

- thermaltake typhoon cpu fan
- thermaltake sonata case black NOICE + lotsa fancy fans (front, back, sides)
didnt bother with the lights and all... too bright! cant sleep at night!~ dernoe how much my bros comp cost though... about 2k$ AUS

the basics of my pc were quite cheap actually, coz i made it myself: £250 for mobo, psu, case, 512 ram and p4 + £120 for graphics card.
