You've basically got two decks with dummy records wired up to a PC, the PC plays MP3 files and you move the dummy records to manipulate the MP3s though they were the actual Vinyl records.

no offense but virtual turntables suck no matter how hard you try. Nothing is ever gonna replace real decks, end of story.

ummm it doesn't replace the decks, it replaces the need to carry around a crate of records. you can put all your vinyl in mp3 format and store it on your labtop, bascially having your labtop as your record crate.
also another plus is that it doesn't work with windows! take that microsoft =P

its just that you can only use it at a club you can mess with the back of the mixer

nice program and all, but i really don't see me shelling out the money for a labtop just to use this at parties. but then again, since linux is being made for ps2, i can just take that around with me =P
i think with products like this, they are definately going to start charging for mp3s. otherwise i feel people are going to be ripped off in one way or another....

I went into this game center (Arcade) last week and there was this sweet fat turd that look like he was the mobel Japanese nerd... I'm talking about revenge of the nerds 100 times over here.... he was using two Apples to play MP3's one after the other while displaying some crappy graphic (not moving) on a TV screen about what the track was about... He called it the techno count down or something... man I just wanted to beat the crap out of him...
1. He's a free loader... don't support the artists, and is tring to be cool from it.
2. He looked like a freaking loser and that's gotta piss you off :)
3. He was booping his head up and down while sitting on a bar stool...
perhaps I was just angry that day... :)

Its bad enough that people become poser dj's to look cool in front of their friends.. but people who become dj's to be cool.. but then start mixing mp3's thinking they are somehow better than the real dj's because its digital and newer??!god it sucks..
and to be more on topic.. the final scratch is a nice idea but like Oli G said, theres not going to be too many gigs where they will freely let you mess around with the back of the mixer. Not only that but if you did get the chance, you might end up looking like as much of a toy/loser as the guy silver was talking about. :(
either way i'd also like to give it a go for myself. (at home maybe)

I would have to say that the final scratch is an unbelievable machine, which simply allows someone with real dj talent to minipulate the music any way he or she wants while reducing the size of a record bag. I think everyone should get around to seeing Hawtin AKA Plastikman, or John Aquaviva and see it work. In Detroit the machine is used by a few House/Detroit Techno DJ's, and it's really cool to look at also. The skill of using the final scractch is the same as using vinyl, I wish I had one. Is it true you have to be a professional dj to get one?

There's no doubt that cd scratching technology has come along way recently.
However it is still in lacking compared to turntables.
There is just no subsitute for vinyl for scratching purposes.
However, vinyl can be expensive. And since you can get any mp3 for free nowadays, why buy cd's or vinyl, just burn them or mix mp3's.
However, that not being true to the artform of the almighty dj.
So, what Am I saying.
A dj in the now, will incorporate both strategies.
Personally, I use mp3's to track which/what songs I like and buy the records, because no matter what club you play at there will always be turntables. With cd's you are limiting yourself. Also, I would advise to beatmatch by ear instead of bpm counters. It takes away from the crowd, you focus on the gear too much versus beatmatching by ear allows you read the crowd more. Most clubs do not have the latest technology i.e. bpm counters, cd/mp3 mixers. Bpm counters and auto bpm will not save you if you're in a club that does not support such handicaps. Also, i think too many new dj's use these features as a crutch. I'm proud of the fact in took me almost 4 months to effectivly learn and implement beatmatching correctly/accurately.
Despite what the times say, vinyl is where the whole thing began, and vinyl is where it will stay. But it doesn't hurt, especially the checkbook, to incorporate cd's/mp3 in to a mix, if the equipment allows. But always be prepared for having vinyl first and other media second.

Im a bit confused. Do yall think the final scratch uses cd's. Or is this a side topic in the stanton final scratch area.. The final scratch uses vinyl, its not a cd turntable.
