Is it a good to buy a download of a hardcore tunes from a website?
Is it ethical? Do royalties go to the artists/producers, or do the sites just pocket some easy money for ripping a 12” to mp3?

It's deffinately good, as they are not ripped from vinyl and are 100% legal - buying them helps support the artist, the store, and what appears to be a new direction for distribution and format.

why's it stupid i bet exactly what he said about people ripping vinyl to mp3 does go on some places, music industrys fulla crooks i'd only trust the label sites or imodownload.
Think about the amount of wanted tunes that get over £100 on ebay then funnily enough get sold on white labels for a fiver a few weeks later, you need to be careful what and where you buy from if you're morally against bootlegs and ripping off producers.

It isn't a stupid question at all, some people aren't exposed to certain things, and that is why there is a forum to talk about it and help people out.
And the first letter caps thing is (i believe) an all caps filter.

only "ethical" thing i can see about bought mp3, is if yo DJ infront of people with a laptop, cause IMO that kills the feeling of seeing a DJ live.
Yes, I know that I use software myself to make mixes, but I do not DJ, in the same way a proper DJ does. Only live sets I would do is when i record my mixes and feel like sharing how poor I do them :P

Why does it kills the feeling if someone plays with a laptop? The thing that I care about when I go out is if the musik and the dj'ing is good, not what the dj uses to do it with. Just as long as he not plays pre-done mixes.

I think because the fact you can't actually tell that the DJ is playing live or it's just winamp playing in the background. At least with CD-J's you know the DJ has skills with a laptop you may start to question a perfect mix.

Then the dj maybe should proof himself by playing some requests :) And I think if you use a laptop you must have some skills to. It´s not just to take 2 tunes and press automix ;) Well, I undersstand how you think and I never seen a dj playing with a laptop on club. But I just feels that my feeling will not go away if I did see one that did.

I haven't got a problem with it. A percentage of sales does go to the website hosting the tracks as well i.e. www.imodownload.com

maybe you also thought it was unethical because it soo darn easy to get an mp3 and mix it withen minutes of downloading it?
since i only dl from 3 sites. Id like to think that these 3 are giving money back to the artists'.
