Listen to as many styles as you can. Not just material from big labels or the stuff that's on the big compilation CDs, but also try some of the smaller labels for more diversity. Listen to old stuff an new. Just try to broaden your view as much as you can, and all shall be well.

I wouldn't try to put a label onto things that much. Of course there are subgenres with their own distinct features, but quite often certain elements from one style are used in a tune of another style, et cetera.
PM me your MSN addy if you want more detailed information and some concrete examples (can send you some clips of several subgenres to show you the difference, et cetera).

Too bad the Hardcore section is all wrong :p beno27, give me few days and ill try to sort you out some sort of list of diffrent types of Hardcore tunes with mp3 samples. Though if you Chwhynny have also some sort of list of samples, maby we could try to sort out one big list that could be used in other similar situations too? I can give about 50Mb of webspace for it, not very fast if theres many DL'ing at the same time, but better then nothing.

Don't really have anything. Was just a bit enthusiastic and made her a few clips. It's difficult to explain though, so many styles are blending a bit in certain tunes at the moment. I don't think we should put a label on everything in such a strict way really. Nice idea to make alist, however. But I suspect it's going to be very difficult.

No, this is something that could be useful, and ive been going to and will do it anyway. The point really isnt to put a label on anything, just to pick "generic" tracks that have elements used in sertain genres that would in total give a good example of the variation. But yea, i'll do a rough example soon and see where it goes... Most likely ill do it in the forums and host the clips on my webspace.
