Reets guys and gals, I obtained one of these awesome sons of mothers for xmas and I have to say I am astounded. Lol. Anyway, I'm calling upon the other owners of these. Has anyone used one of these downgrader things (2.0 to a 1.5) so that you can play all the old shit hot games like mario kart?
It would be just swell to play streets of rage....on the bus!

sounds interesting not heard of that yet? Does it work like an emulator?

BTW Liberty City Stories is quality (unrelated but I just had to share that)

Well yeah basically you are downgrading it so that you can use emulators to play the old games. And apparently because these old games are no longer on sale anymore and can be found on the internet, it is perfectly legal (or so im told!)

And yes, Liberty City stories is awesome.

just because something is old and not produced anymore doesn't mean it is exempt from copyright laws but like that is gonna stop you

I believe the law regarding emulators is that you may download any game that you already own.

emulators arnt illegal, only ones that features bio's such as jaguar and saturn

Roms are only legal if you own the orginal copy, If not its illegal
as soon as it touches your computer, your breaking the law (same as mp3, illegal porn ect.)

your looking for this guide:

Downgrading your psp isnt illegal, sony only discourage it

Edit: if you downgrade, MAKE SURE the files dont enclude any files that are PSPBrick or simular to brick, or your psp will never work again

the laws regarding these things are included in whats called "reasonable" copying. ie u can back up your cd (burn a copy on a blank disk) but burning like 3 or 4 is unreasonable and therefor you are violating the copyright.
also if u buy a cd or such u can put it on your ipod, since thats a reasonable "violation". games are pretty much the same thing, only they have far more cd protection.

not sure about emulators so to speak, just clarifying about copyright laws.
i often have 2 download .mp3's off of limewire because when i buy them online sometimes i get .m4a's which are completely useless and damn near impossible to convert to .mp3. tho tehcnically im downloading music, if the cops were to search my comp, i would be found not guilty of violating the copyrights of the music, since i own the song.

but that doest mean if u have a cd u can download the single mp3 off the net, or any of the remixes, since thats violation. but having the cd itself on your hd, exactly the same as the cd you own, is fine.

psp's are boring, there's a couple decent games, but they get boring then ur stuck with a very expensive dvd player, which u have 2 buy special dvd's for.
i bought mine with 2 games and 3 movies for 140$ CAD cuz he was bored with it, and im already bored with it (had it 2 weeks) sure its shiny and looks decent, but so do laptops and laptops are far more useful.

Sorry mum, another boy told me to do it.

Anyway, yeh emulators and roms are legal if you own the original.

I know how to get the stuff to downgrade etc, I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with doing this?

PS. I don't think psp's are boring.

^^^ Well tbh 6feet, all the games I want to play, I do own. I just can't find my megadrive! And it would be awesome to be able to play the old skool games anywhere, especially without having to fanny on with setting up my snes or megadrive.

I downgraded my psp from 2.0 to 1.5, but had to re upgrade for GTA. the emulators for the some consoles were good and others were real bad, the nes emulator played games perfectly, the Megadrive/Genesis emulator played games at nearly full speed but the sound was choppy as hell, and the snes emulator played real slow, you could also emulate the umd drive and play older PSP games/UMD movies off the memory stick, it's quite a good idea because it preserves battery life because there is no disc spinning around, but you do need at least a 512MB-1GB memory stick to do this. The only problem is that you won't be able to play games that require firmware V2.0 or higher, there is a way to bypass this with a program that will fool your psp into thinking it had 2.0 but it only worked for some games and not others (like GTA!) and if you think about re upgrading the firmware while using one of these programs to fool your psp, change it back to the version you downgraded it to otherwise it will break the psp. BTW if you are running V2.0 i think there is a program for the psp to load up emulators and i think this would be safer than downgrading the firmware because you have less of a chance of busting the psp, the downgrade was quite akward to do, norton kept on warning me that part of the downgrade package was a virus, it wasn't good for the PSP it wouldn't turn off and still doesn't occasionally and i have to remove the battery as part of the process, i think it invalidates the warranty and you wouldn't be able to play any new games, and there is a real good chance you could break the console in the process of downgrading. the main reason why i downgraded was to watch a real obscure UMD movie that i couldn't buy anywhere (it was only available in japan and i couldn't find anywhere to buy it that would ship to england), and not for piracy. the novelty of using emulators and stuff worn off after about 2 weeks and i had to re upgrade to play socom and gta so im using V2.5 firmware now and no emulators. because the main reason i bought it was to play gta and burnout on the bus with ps2 graphics and not 12 year old megadrive games (if i want to do that i just use my GBA). if you want to find out more info head to the gamefaqs psp message board or use google. JUST DON'T BLAME ME IF IT BUGGERS UP YOUR PSP! i wouldn't do it if someone gave it to me as a gift but it's your call at the end of the day.
