i like the key change as well, but do think that there needs to be something else happening in there somewhere. any suggestions??

Didn't sound like it needed anything else to me but I'll have another listen when I get home.
Maybe if you filtered out the sound of the lead a bit towards the end of the loop (before the key change) or changed it around somehow so that when the key change happens it's not such an instant, sudden change as that's what (IMO) is wrong with it.
