The PS3 will play games from 1 and 2, sony have said this on there website.
Also if PS3 supports linux operating system, That should mean it can support XP or Mac OS, and double as a PC? Anybody know anything about that.

Ken Kutaragi confirmed that the PlayStation 3 will come with GNU/Linux as its operating system. Kutaragi hinted that there is a possibility that the PlayStation 3's hard disk drive may be sold separately. The drive is required for most games since they depend on a hard disk for data storage or otherwise lose most usability options.
IBM had quickly sent a series of improvements to the Linux developers mailing-list regarding the Cell processor, and has publicly presented a Cell based server running Linux kernel 2.6.12. Since then IBM has begun to offer detailed information and tutorials for software development on Cell based systems including the PlayStation 3.

this is all very interesting, especially what whisperings just told us, but to me, its sounding less like a console and more like a pc..
...why not just buy a pc lol

love the idea of the revolution, can see how ther trying to re-create the nintendo NES (which was my first ever console, good times, and which 4 years ago my dad sold for £4 along with 20 games at a car boot without my knowing!!!)
will still buy the ps3 though

omg sol for £4, that sucks - mines still back in britain, along with all the other consoles that wouldnt have worked over here without buying a multi-system tv lol

I'd like to think that as well since sony have bought us many brilliant games over the years (I know sony don't make the games themselves, but what's a game with nothing to play it on?!), but I have to agree that the xbox kicked everything elses ass and I think the new one will too.
Even if the ps3 is capable of making better graphics.. you can only go so far before people don't care about better graphics anymore and I think the xbox 360 has hit that mark. Kong (bad game or not, I don't know) is SO realistic it's hard to believe.
One more thing.. screenshots of games don't do the graphics justice, nor do movies. The quality of every video and screenshot of xbox 360 games I've seen so far haven't even came close to the xbox 360s' graphics. You have to see it for yourself to get an actual idea of what the games look like.

Agreed. Perfect dark and Goldeneye have to be a couple of the greatest games ever in my opinion. They're up there with the likes of Halo.
