it's legal if u own em already, nothing wrong with it. but when they check u'll need to be able to prove u have it, so don't leave the original lying around at a friends place.

Imho there is a double standard in the music industry.
On one hand they claim when you buy a CD you are buying a liscence to listen to it, which restricts your rights as to what you can do with it (example copying, broadcasting).
On the other hand, if you bought a CD/vinyl and it got damaged physically, even if you could prove you bought it and it was no-longer playable, if you want a replacement you will have to pay the whole price again.
This doesn't seem fair... you already own the liscence, its just the media which is damaged. Surely a CD costs $5 max in terms of the CD case, the CD itself and the shipping costs. You should be entitled to a replacement disk (I guess you would have to provide your old one or the pieces of it) for a token charge.
So to answer your question, I think if you own the liscence already (your originally purchased on vinyl / CD) then you are in no way in the wrong downloading the song. Provided you still own the liscence that is.

yea im with u on that one mate. ive uve bought the vinyl i see no prob with ppl downloadin the mp3, uve already bought the choon and it saves you having to rip your vinyls to your computer. and if uve bought a cd and it ****s up, id be willing to buy a copied one. (even though i back up all my cd's and only play the copied cd, i leave the origionals as they are :) )

If legitimate MP3 downloads take over completely from the normal p2p piracy abuse,(which unfortunately truth be known, will never happen.) - we could simply burn another copy of our cd when it is too ****ed to play. or We'd just be using our I-Pods (or rival players) instead by the time that change could ever possibly take place.
However it wouldn't stop people selling those cd copies without the money going to the labels. It would cut out the manufacturing process though as the buyer is performing the cd burning and packaging duties. Dishonesty appears to be part of human nature, hence there isn't really a solution that will work IMO...... Yet.
Legal issues aside, I found having a copy of track on mp3 that you already have on vinyl, was useful for learning double decking stuff (phasing, beat juggling etc) and it saved me buying two copies of the same record. (It's legal, if you own the original, right?) But now I have the Numark DXM06 mixer with a nice delay feature, that gets rid of the need for ****ing around with mp3 dj software such as traktor. I find the feature easier to use too, even now to the extent i can do looping effectively at times. But it won't ever beat actually using two copies of the same record, which has visual appeal and not just sound tweakery.
A silly little sub-question - but what are peoples views on tracks, being included on mixes posted online?

online mixes and hardcore compilation cds, seem to increase my record buying habits to such an extent, that my wallet starts crying.

i'm addicted to buying vinyl, the lovely post man will be bringing my 3rd box(80+) of the year and even that is going to be half full when it arrives. but i hate to say it, if i hadnt downloaded a happy hardcore album a few years ago, i'd never be where i am now. the only thing i'll download now is the vinyl that i own

I think this liscensing thing has gotten completely out of hand.
If I ever start a record label, I'll encourage file sharing. Music is for the people and I will give it to them.
Sure, I'll make special content available for those that want to pay for it (ie dvds, signed glass cut cd's) but free music is some of the best music.

If i buy a vinyl, then copy it to pc (for listening to while i'm on t'internet) what if i eventually decide to sell the record, does that mean i (legally) should delete the song from my pc?

the question i have always wondered is this..
person buys a vinyl.. listens.. doesnt like it
sells on ebay for twice as much as he's bought it for
how he has made a profit and the artists jack shit...
surely filesharing is just sharing a tune you have with other people but without making yourself a profit?
which if you look at it that way, file sharing is worst than selling on ebay.
i personally dont use p2p unless for getting tunes i own (as i said). but i agree with ryg0r. if i want my music to spread i'd let people share my music.... i wouldnt encourage it, but i wouldnt be an ass about it.
if someone isnt going to buy a tune they wont, but if they like an artist, its garanteed they'll go to a rave to see them.
