Some scary shit, hope everyone will be okay there. Though looking at the bright side, the warning came pretty early for most people to evacuate.

new orleans has quite a vast poor population, like 100,000 people that haven't be able to evacuate themselves. 12,000 are in the skydome but that leaves 88,000 that are really gonna be up against it, i reckons there are gonna be many deaths then i bet a lot of looting

Here it wouldnt be that bad, since every house has to have a bomb shelter. Pretty much every apartment building has its own, if there isnt, there is a huge one near the area. I guess were still a bit afraid of war :p

i live in aus, and we have to put up with cyclones and shit, but the fact that this hurricane is going to be passing through almost 5 states is insane, i feel sorry for the people who are going to lose alot of their possesions, as long as they dont lose people from their families, i spose the other things can be replaced, but the fact that the warning did come so early really is a good thing, im glad technology can now guess the path of thing like this, to keep everyone safe and out of harms way...

sorry to all the people who HAVE lost loved ones in this freak storm. i feel for you all... not an easy thing, hope the rest of you are all dafe though and stay braced for whatever this bitch has in store for you all next...hopefully it wont be anything too bad, hopefully it wont be nething at all...thoughts with you though...

Here in N.Y. we don't get any of that, so I guess you could say it's pretty safe here when it comes to natural disasters. We've gotten earth tremors but not that anyone really noticed.

I blame global warming for the increase in hurricanes

this should teach people not to live near water fronts =P pretty spectacular that it can reach nearly all the way up to the southern tip of Indiana

I was gutted about the whole ordeal, as New Orleans is my favorite place to visit in the US.

Damn right. It's also where I discovered Hurricanes (the drink), $10 plastic cups of beer, palmetto bugs, and po' boy catfish sandwiches.

well a levee has fallen in New Orleans. If you didn't know, NO is below sea level so they have levees to keep the water out. Just a few hours ago a levee broke down and things arent lookin good for the people still in the city . I've personally never been to new orleans and I'm sad I haven't cause its definately not going to be the same after this storm! Right now 80% of the city is underwater and some of it might not come back I'm afraid.

Not only that, but New Orleans is also located in a "bowl" between the Mississippi river and lake Pontchartrain, so the water (up to 25 feet deep in some spots) will tend to stay in the city.

Ewwwwww.

Most of them are encased in concrete, and they cremate before long because of how hot it gets inside the tombs. Interesting fact is that they have public tombs which get reused over and over for people who can't afford private ones.
