I always explained what I meant and why I said it and didn't go attacking northants personally until he went after me. I'm not mad nor would I ever waste my time being mad at someone I will never meet. I just think when people say stuff they should either think before saying it so what they write actually makes sense or has a purpose, or otherwise if it's just a piss-take then they would be best off shutting up. It's nice to have many topics to read but filling the board up with garbage piss-takes and triple posts is just superfluous and I think everyone would rather not have it to sift through. Anyways, I have no problem with northants posting here as long as his posts have some sort of inherent purpose or try to elicit some type of worthwhile response, rather than just filling up silver's server with junk.

I agree with Pathfinder, unknown track rips are good... but also I do love some mainstream type rips, ie. mashed up 4 the natalie imbruglia rip love that track =)

I think its kinda sad tho that people get sooo worked up over having different opinions, Its always going to happen and if everyone takes its personally then we'll just end up with a whole lot of garbage on these boards as lixx sed..

An interesting topic this, so I thought I would throw in my bit. Rip-off's come about for many reasons and I can only speak for myself, but this is how I see it.
1) As a producer, everything I hear is heard through a producer's ear, meaning if I hear something that would make a wicked D'n'B track, I may give it a go. But I often dont do it because if I thought of it, then chances are, someone else did too...and in the end something new is always better than something re-cycled. Unless its a tree.
2) If your skint, it is one of the few "safe" ways to make a bit of money...unless you get caught.
3) Many producers are lazy or greedy, and all producers (well most) have tunes they love and want more people to hear, so sometimes it is done to share a piece of music. But not often.
4) The Japanese albums pay a lot of money for "no ideas" music. Its hard to refuse a whole load of money for a quick day in the studio. Even when you know better (whoops)
I prefer to take unknown stuff, or if its well known, f**k it up beyond recognition. I personally feel that rip-offs do no good for the scene. I am well aware that my first tracks were rip-offs. But they didn't do any good for the scene, either. And without originality, things quickly get stagnant. But this applies to the whole of the music, not just rip-offs.
And thats all I have to say about that.
Bye then :)

Yeah thats right, at some point money has to be made, suppose this is the reason for alot of hardcore producers turning to the house scene, ie vinylgroover - a sad loss...

btw Mr Luna-c, lookin forward to seein ya set at elysium in Perth on the 15th!!

OK.. my 2c.... 4 what its worth.

I don't think popular rips harm the scene, I mean it doesn't matter if a garage head calls our scene/music sh*te, because even if we produced the best music in the world, he'd still call it sh*te.

Therefore, inside the scene as we are, we can either like rips or we don't, by either not buying them, or respecting the producer for doing it but saying, "hey, that's not my thing".

Knowing a few producers in this scene, it seems that some guys are bursting with fantastic ideas and stuff, but lack a tiny bit of musical instrument know how. Therefore, lifting a popular tune, and putting your own slammer beats/breaks on it is a very viable alternative. And most of the time, I reckon they sound great.

Luna-C once said to me, and I quote: "Your musics great, but yer beats are f*ckin' sh*t!" Praise indeed!

He's quite right of course, but if it was the other way round, and I couldn't write music, melodies and lyrics, maybe I'd be tempted to rip some more. Don't think we don't ever consider it, cos I know I do, all the time you hear a track and think "That would make a great hardcore track", but I can't be ars*d to do it. It's easier for me to write a new song than lift an old track.

As for Sesame's Treet, I'm sure Luna-C would agree, that at the time, this was a very happy scene. A scene where anything went, and it didn't matter. So we did that track, because it really did make people happy. Of course over exposure and commercialisation killed it stone dead, but then, that can't be helped. As artists/producers, you have no control over your work once it's in the public domian.

I see posts saying that Shooting Star is way overplayed, and yeah, I would agree, but that's not a producers/artists fault. And it has to be said, that I've spoken to many people that say, they still get a buzz when they hear it, whatever mix it is.

So lets not get too picky about our scene. ALL music promoting hardcore is good. If someone put's their hand in their pocket, stumps up £1000 to release a few records, because they really believe their product is great, then that's good enough for me. I may not like it, but good on yer... and you'll get any help I can give to make your track a success.

Now... who's up for remixing Bob the Builder.......

tata
