Well if you do have a ipod, you can subscribe to them in itunes, but most podcasts (if not all) have there own website where you can just download the individual mp3s and just play them back on your computer or transfer them to an mp3 player for listening to away from your computer.

Most podcasts have a new episode or show each week, Top Of The Pods does a new show almost every day.

Bazza,
How do I transfer the podcast's I downloaded into iTunes on to my actual iPod?
Cheers

Whats the deal/fascination with podcasts?

Its just a fancy name for downloading a set to listen to on your mp3 player.

I mean, you *could* search out for promo mixes floating around the forums....

Seriously, the term podcast just gives me the craps. Its not a novel idea (streamripping was waaay ahead of podcasting) and its stupid buzz word by some random.

Gah, call me bitter, but I think podcasting is a load of tripe.

Just plug in your ipod and it should update.

Podcasts are usually weekly or daily radio type talk shows, but they're not meant for music, accept for maybe background music. They work through RSS feeds, so you can subscribe to them and get new episodes as they become available.

Try downloading a episode at www.topofthepods.com and I think you'll understand more clearly.

Ok try.. Edit.. Preferences... Podcasts... ipod preferences... and select Automatically update all podcasts..

You need to have your ipod connected to access the ipod preferences.

Bazza, I know exactly what it is. I just gives me the craps.

People (dare I say, bloggers) are going nuts over a concept that isn't that novel or new when streaming radio/streamrippers have been around for years.

Maddox sums it up nicely:

quote:
Podcast: Someone had the revolutionary idea of taking a compressed audio file and putting it online. Yeah, doesn't sound so sexy when I describe it for what it is, does it you morons? It would have been a great idea if streaming audio wasn't already around for over a decade before the word "podcast" entered the lexicon.

I think the whole article on Blogs is a crack up:

http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=banish

Its funny that one hand people want privacy, they don't like laws that *could* infringe their personal freedoms, but on the other hand, they blast as much personal information as they can into cyberspace....

Damn you podcasts! Long live streaming audio!

Well personally I think they're great.

For one thing you can't listen to streaming audio away from your computer, and you can't usually save it either. It's fine for a continuous radio broadcasts, but podcasts are great for 15 to 30 minute shows. They're great for listening to in your car in your lunchbreak, or on the way home on the bus or train, or even sat on the toilet lol.

Yep, take a look at www.feedburner.com I think that's probably the easiest way to do it.

I did a test podcast using Wordpress, but you need you're own webserver with database support for that, but it fairly straight forward.
