Problem:
the computer can find the cd-rom (Drive F: ), but when I put in a cd, it won't read it (I have turned off the auto-run feature).
When I double click on the cd icon (in 'my computer') it says: Please insert a disk into drive F:
I've tried now with 10 different cds, and all the same: "please insert a disk into drive F:"
I've tried now two times to uninstall the cd-rom and install it again, still the same
I checked the cables, all inserted as they should be, still same problem
info:
OS: Windows 2000 Pro
C: Main HDD
D: secondary HDD
E: part 2 of main HDD
F: CD-Rom
What to do now?

Three possibilities I can think of:
1. Dirty lens
2. It's buggered and you need a new one
3. You have allot of scratched cd's!

try updating the driver for the cd rom,
right click and click on properties in 'my computer'
click on 'device manager' and click on the cd rom drive
then click on the 'driver' tab and click 'update driver'
someting simular happend to my sound card about a month ago and i did that and its fine now
