WTF is crab scratching anyway? Sounds like an uncomfortable condition!

Its where a given sample is cut up into segments by the Dj opening and closing the fader quickly. This is achieved by 'brushing' his 4 fingers against the xfader effectivley opening and closing it 4 times.

The trick is to make your thumb act like a spring by having just enough pressure there to close the fader quickly but also smooth

Its not impossible far from it. It's just as always (& already stated a few times here) PRACTICE

Its not perfect by anyway but its a start, at least i know its not impossible lol

ps. is there anyway to make a cross fader looser cos mines a wee bit stiff??

You may also need an Xfader that has a variable cut off. The shorter the cut off the better

I wouldn't recommend using wd-40. if you want to spray it, go with something along the lines of pro gold. your other options would be to constantly move it back and forth to try and loosen it up, try buying another brand of crossfader (if you can find one that will fit), or probably the best option...buy a better mixer

Do NOT use WD-40, I was reading another forum which had a topic on WD. Apparently when it evapourates it leaves behind a jelly like sticky residue which would not do your fader any good. Try an alcohol beased solvent like nail varnish remover or tape casssette head clener (isopropyl alcohol). Or get a better mixer. Can any1 recomend a good mixer (or a different x-fader for a Citronic MSX-1) to make scratching easyer to learn as I have been trying to learn for years with little improvement.

just as long as you have an adjustable cross fader - any mixer will do, i learnt to scratch on a really cheep mixer with a crappy adjust

its practice which makes you better :)

the pioneer DJM707/909 is a great mixer for scratchin
and vestax PMC series also, my only problem with it was that my nails get caught under the fader when doing dribbbleeess

other than that both of those mixers are great

^^^^^^ Cheers, I'll take a look at those. As far as I'm aware I can't adust the cut psition of my fader, I like the idea of that as if you don'tneed to move the fader as far, it should be easyer to move it quicker. I've been mixin for about 7 years and I feel I can't really improve my beat matchin any more and really want to add more to my sets, ie scratchin, but like you said , after a day at work my fingers are aching just typing this !!! Anyway , gonna go and practice , practice , practice.....

Big Dave, I asked the same question after first seeing that video. Quality tune imo.
