I'm not sure what i want here, so just help me out. I want to make my own hardcore, but i don't know what i need. Do i need turn tables? Mixing programs? What? All i know is I have all these sounds going through my head, and if i can just get them in song form its gunna be amazing!

Little help here...

A good way to get into it is with a PC

I recommend getting:

* A PC capable of running Reason (does not need to be super flash, but having a low-latency soundcard helps)

* Reason itself (very good studio-in-a-box from propellerhead software)

* A MIDI capable keyboard, prefferably with Touch-sensitivity

* A MIDI cable to hook the cable to your computers soundcard

* Some decent headphones

The above setup should not cost you an arm and a leg - you can most likely get the midi keyboard second hand. You will be able to evaluate whether you want to continue producing with this setup without spending too much money, while at the same time potentially being able to make professional sounding tracks with enough patience.

I would recommend when starting producing to begin with drum loops instead of sequencing drums yourself - drum sequencing is the part of producing I find hardest and most tedious. You can get some really good sounding tunes using drum loops - and there is nothing to stop you later on replacing these with drums you have sequenced yourself.

When producing don't get too stuck on getting the perfect 'sound' - get the meat of the song laid down first, eg developing riffs, deciding on structure. Once the song has taken form, then start tuning it with reverb, instrument patches and so on.

Having said that, sometimes finding a new instrument/sound inspires a riff for me! so if you are stuck for ideas you can try that.

Also, if you come up with something while producing and it sounds really cool but just doesn't fit in with the song - DON'T TRY AND MUDDLE IT IN! you could just throw it away... but a better option is to save it into a different file and next time you are stuck for an idea while producing another track, its there as a starting point! cool huh?

Well thats about it from me...

What about frootie loops? Is that program any good? I heard from one of my DJ Friends that it was the best to start with.

Reason vs. Frootie Loops

ah yes, fruity loops. it is a good program....i have a riend who can make tracks using only FL....as well as vocals too (where you type in the words and they are read back out 2 ya)...i myself can only make drum sequences with it...it does have a good selection of different sound to choose to create loops from.

...o if u wanna get an ok program thats freeware thats used for drums then download Hammerhead

Fruity Loops is good mate but works in a sightly different manner than most professional music software.

I suggest you start with Reason or Logic Audio to get a feeling of the real thing!
