Hi,
I have a problem when i'm mixing, once I have the records playing together (in headphones) I cant seem to work out which 1 is faster or which 1 is slower, does any1 have any tips on working this out?

just get to know the record. listen more to the record your bringing in rather than the one playing.

That's DJing... the ability to tell the difference and keep them in time :)
You have to switch between listening on your headphones and what is coming out of the speakers to tell if the record is going to fast or two slow your mixing into.

yurp, this the thing that's gonna take time to learn im afraid dude. im assuming you have split cue (you can play both tracks simultaneously through your headphones) as opposed to using the speakers for the current track and the headphones for the new track.
when you get both of the records playing listen very closely, you want to hear the track that's already playing but concentrate on the new track, and what it's doing on top of the current track.
the difficult part to get is knowing to speed up or slow down the track, but with time you'll start to notice that they actually make slightly different sounds. all you can do for this part is practice mate, it'll start to come really quickly if you stick with it.
until that happens just make slight changes to the record coming in. for example always slow it down a little bit when they start to go out, you'll find that sometimes it works and the beats come together. Get used to that scenario, and how it sounds....... then when you feel like slowing it wont work, speed it up and hey presto! you've subconsciously learned the difference 
there's no set way of learning this stuff mate, you've just gotta practice and see what works for you. some ppl may do things much differently to me but hell, that's my advice give it a go if you want!

alternatively, get them the same speed. When the beats start to differ, speed up the new track. If it gets worse, slow it down. Then you can tell.

Split your ears, so one is hearing one song and the other is hearing another that seems to help.

^^^ that's is your mixer supports that... If the DJ monitors are crap or there are no DJ monitors (ack!)... you need to know how to mix in headphones, two channels inside your headphones.
