No one invented it like all techno music it evolved from other types of music.

Silver is correct. I have some Harthouse, Fax, and Rising High records from 91-93, many ppl consider those labels and a few others to be the origins of trance. But if you listen to them they have trance elements, but don't sound anything like trance today. It has all been a big slow development with lots of borrowing and a little creativity to get us where we are today in Techno.

Most trance sounds came out of the "I think therefore I ambient" movement. The easiest to find example I can think of is "Little Fluffy Clouds" by the Orb (although not perhaps the best example). Most all early "trance" records had flip sides that were ambient mixes. Or very often Trance tracks would be B-side cuts of an ambient tune. Hope that helps ^_^
