WOW. I was just browsing the WORST and BEST lists that people had posted and it seems as though there are two discticts preferences: Those who really like a lot of drums and hard beats, and those who really like the melodic vocals. It also seems that those who really like one don't particularly like the other.
I, personally, LOVE a lot of drums and drum breaks with hard beats (John Gotti's Revenge, Eye Opener, Music I Like) and I am not a huge fan of extremely melodic vocals (Heart of Gold, Shooting Star).
I can't exactly finger on it, but I want to know what people think. Am I crazy? You OLD SKOOLERS help me here-- those who know what they're talking about. Because I certainly don't...I just have an observation.

Doesn't really matter how hard it is, it just has to either have a really rushy bit or a tingles down the spine melodic bit. Otherwise its probbly not a good choon

well, most people over here that i've talked to that have never really heard hh think of the more melodic chunes...probably mainly from stuff like h2bh, this turns a lot of people away from it and at the same time it intriges other ppl to want more.
which makes it interesting to play in an area that hardly has any hardcore at all. i enjoy having a nice mix of both, usually a lil more hard pounding beats, to try and see want the crowd reacts to more.
But, then again most of the time i just say f*ck it and go all out hardcore

LOVE IT ALL!! I love starting a set with really hard beats, than moving into some trancecore (oh sorry, freeform or whatever), than into a mix of some really happy cheese alongside some junglish or breaks hhc.
