go check out some programs like fruity loops, reason, cubase and logic, those are probably the most common computer production programs out there. after that just start reading manuals and sites and such.

id say check out computer music. not cheap but it gives you an idea about starting. I also got hold of some ebooks like cubase manual etc. they can help with the software.

Get Fruity loops for starters, for me I started using it and getting some really experimental tunes going. Then people yelled at me to get reason/cubase so I got cubase. I still usr fruity to produce. It depends on how you use it but you can get quality out of it . I just use cubase for bits and peices.

you'd be amazed at how much you can do with just a computer. i'd recommend picking up some sort of controller (keyboard you can plug into your pc) as well because it just makes life so much easier when you can just tweak a knob rather than try to manipulate a mouse

I use a MC505, but there are better controllers out there.
