Hi all,

I know you guys probably get a lot of threads from 'wannabe dj's', but I've been wanting to create (or edit) music for a while now. I have little to no experience in music creation (but basic knowledge in 'technicals'); I've chopped and changed wave files in Audacity, created a few mixes in basic 'loop' programs on pc and psx (stop laughing already), and listened to MOD files in SoundTracker while watching a strange matrix of numbers fly past
Just to give a general outline, I'd like to 'spice up' old music, create new music (either by some tracker-like program, or recording samples), and maybe mix music on-the-fly. I'd eventually prefer to end up using Linux, but I'm more than happy to 'start off' with Windows-based programs.
So, where should I start?

btw, I've been listening to DI FM's stream for a while (guess which one I prefer? [:P])- I esp. like "DJ Silver's mixes. Many times I find myself listening for hours at night in front of the computer, and still have the beats thumping away inside my head the next day. I know I'm on something good when I can't drag myself away from the computer, and when I do, I don't want to turn the music off- You guys rock

Cheers for now,

/Biggoggs

acid pro is only really good for chopping up loops, and you need 3 or 4 really because the timing sucks on 1-2. Fruityloops is indeed a good program to learn on because its so easy to use, however learning some or all of cubase early on could be beneficial. its much harder to learn if you know FL like the back of your hand because you're so used to it and they are 2 very different programs.

The best thing to do would be to download a load of hardcore samples and some 909 kits etc, have a mess around with them and see what you can do. Best of luck to you and hope you enjoy your time as a producer. And yes - FL is much easier than SoundTracker - i still ain't figured it out :P

what did you use to make Rock the Jam Smilee? It's bangin' and shows that it's possible to make great tracks with a little effort... I wanna do great tracks too!!! lol
i was thinking about buying this music-making thing (like ejay) in my local GAME store... (can't find any elsewhere) but i don't know if i'll be able to make good tracks through these types of programs

Its Cubase.net :)...Yeah buy one! like i bought one :P(Sarcasm alert ,haha)

It takes quite alot of time to make good tunes! ,Thanks to some very helpful people i have progressed faster than i would have! :) ....Dont touch ,Ejay..Get FL..You can do the same thing with FL and Cubase Except ,Cubase is more advanced :)...And i wouldnt advise starting out in it as i suppose it would be very hard to learn :)
