Ok, I'm pretty new to dj'ing and I have gotten the hang of the basics and beatmatching. But you always see the pros going nuts at the eq controls and such, can anyone please tell me what's the secret behind this? Sure you can higher/lower the mids and such to fit the song, but is there really that much to do?

What do all you dj's do to make your mix sound better?
I know I should experiment my self, but it would be fun to hear other's experience.

Also, I need some help, when you beatmatch and the kickdrums from the two songs are "taking out" eachother (sounds like they dissapear) what do you do? Change the pitch slightly?

peace

basically, going nuts at the eq controls is something pro's do for extra brownie points. dont worry about that until you can scratch and beatmatch like a pro.

I've found you can't do too much with the kickdrumz besides nail them completely or they will cancel out, most of the time if you're slick you can speed up slightly or slow down just enough to get it right. Also...Lower the Bass EQ on one side before dropping it in then shift them equally as the transistion progresses. Or do it quick. Whatever works for you.

The kick thing does eventually work itself out once your beat matching improves so.

I don't know what I just said.

I like to lower the bass on the track coming in, then gradually work it up while I work the other down. Makes for a smoother sounding mix IMO, and helps to get rid of that "muddy" sounding bass.
