wow, ladies and gentlemen, lets jsut relax and take a breathe here... who ever knows where the origins are, there will always be two or three stories, and inthis case you're probably both right, djs kept pusin' the BPM limit and as it got faster a new sound originated and really broke out when kev energy and sharkey took that and put their own unique twist on this to make it original and sound the best as well as not just sped up music but its own sound. the ad 30 bmp and you get a "core" style music it's kind of ridiculous, but so is saying a style of music came out of the blue, it all was evolved from somewhere...
so much drama over a grave dug post, sheesh...
"Everybody... rock, rock on.. "

Well, I agree this is pretty silly, but.... umm... here:
"My god. Listen to yourself."
Same...
"Look, it just doesn't make sense that slowly certain trance producers pushed the bpm's up higher and higher and finally they just decided it was fast enough to put core at the end."
Why not? Cause that IS what happened. Again, look at the history of electronic music. Back in the early 90's TONS of DJ's were modding their 1200's to increase pitch control to +/- 20% or more. "Rave" music has been pushed faster and faster ever since it got popular. Make sense or not that's what happened.
"They didn't just add "core" That doesn't make a single bit of sense."
They took a form of Trance that was developing and ran with it. They did add "core" to it, but the same kind of music was already in existance before it was given a new name.
"Freeform / Trancecore started when Sharkey and a few other hardcore producers were experimenting with different sounds and crossovers from others genres (such as trance)."
Again, they gave it a name and ran with it, but the Genre was already there. I'm not saying that Druid, Energy, and Sharkey shouldn't get credit for deleloping Trancecore to what it has become, but the same type of music already existed, with some (very)minor exceptions. Course they also named it and pushed it, which is very cool.
"After a while they called it freeform to reflect the fact that it is experimental and not-limited to sounding trancy."
Yep, you're right, Trancecore did sound Trancy cause it came from Trance, and then was further developed into "freeform". But I was talking about Trancecore and where it came from, not saying that Freeform is a rip of trance.
"The reason why I'm so adamant that freeform is not just trance at 170 bpm is because it's easy to pitch down your record and see that freeform at 140 bpm sounds nothing like trance."
Nice of you to somehow imply that somewhere I said Freeform came from Trance, but I didn't so what you just said doesn't apply in any way to this "debate". Also, if you just pitch something down of course it'll sound like crap, try applying a pitch correcting time stretch.
"if you can honestly go over to the Nu Energy site and look at some freeform made in 2001/2002 and still say it's just sped up trance.."
*Soren goes to find this "Nu Energy" site*
OK, well I found the release section and went down to the Nu Energy part and took a listen. And it sounds like.... OMFG... Trance (and as I say below the description for this music is "Pumpin' Hard Trance Styled Freeform". But of course it has nothing to do with old hard trance cause you said so in you all mighty knowledge. The Kicks are heavier than last time I listened to Trancecore and the Bass lines are a bit heavier, but that's a trend in all rave music lately so it's understandable. Acid lines and melodic stacks, yep that definitely Trance. And I was never talking about "freeform" or what music sounds like now. I was trying to explain where Trancecore came from. OK, i found a new trancecore song and downloaded it. Then I imported it into a sound editor and time stretched it down to 140 BPM without altering the pitch so it sounds all slow and crappy and I took some of the bass out of it. OK, it's trance now.
You seem to like to ignore what I say in my posts so you can try and nonsensically argue with me by putting words in my mouth, this is just stupid, but hey it's a free world right.
"well.. there's really nothing to say after that."
How about: Try actually reading somone's post and learning more about the stuff you say before you try and spout off about it. I think that applies.
"I surely hope you don't consider all those Raver Baby and Blatant Beats club trance-rips to be freeform either hahaha."
Hahahhah.... what? Why do you keep saying Freeform? I am now and always was talking about trancecore.
"I don't know why you doubt what I'm saying"
Cause your wrong, you just keep talking about stuff that doesn't apply to anything i've said.
"I may not have the rave scene experience that you have, I sure as hell have studied and listened to a load more freeform and modern hardcore than you have."
It's obvious you have absorbed the USH.net "general knowledge". And again, I was never talking about "modern hardcore" or "Freeform from 2002" I was talking about where Trancecore came from, learn how to read.
"If you really think you are on to something with this theory that it all comes from sped up trance go head over to Nu Energy and see what Kevin Energy or Sharkey has to say about that."
It's not a Theory, it's a FACT!!! Go back in time and see for yourself... jeez!
*Soren goes back to Nu Energy*
Ok, where do Kevin and Sharkey say anything about that? Oh, and here's some friggin qoutes off of their site:
This is how they describe their music: "Pumpin' Hard Trance Styled Freeform"
Kevin quote: "I'm making Trancy Hardcore"
K-Complex reply to "where do you get your inspiration from": "Oldskool trance"
OLDSCHOOL TRANCE! TRANCY! HARD TRANCE STYLED FREEFORM! Nope, this must not have anything to do with trance, especially not old trance like i've been telling you....
"You'd think that the people who actually produce this stuff would be the authority on the topic but not everyone sees it that way.."
You sure don't. Look, if you don't believe me either go ask someone or look up some '95-'97 records off the EDM (or EDM hard), Force, or Hard EK labels. Or like just about any German tracks and a lot of GB ones from that time. I'm very sorry that you are wrong and jumped in with some guy swearing at me (or was that you?) cause you are both ignorant, but whatever... I don't even ****** care if you believe me or wanna know where trancecore came from anymore. It really doesn't matter and arguing with you when you just try and twist statments and make $hit up just so you can keep arguing is just plain stupid...

I heard some Rob Gee mix this weekend, I dunno if he uses a sampler or just has a bunch of Porn hardcore, but it was sexcore all over again. Cept a bit faster and "Harder, harder, HARDER!!!"
:)
EDIT: At least I think it was Rob Gee, I don't really pat attention to DJ names anymore...
And that post up there isn't the biggest post ever, I've had bigger posts, just like not in a long time. I keep getting distracted and forgetting about this site (and the rest of the internet) for like 4-8 months. Then I remember it exists and drop by again.
And Lixx: I'm not mad at you or anything. I've read alot of your posts and you seem v-intelligent. I just thought it was dumb that Pacman started swearing at me for saying something so trivial, especially since I don't think he knows what he's talking about. He's a great example of the current state of "PLUR" in the rave/HHC scene now a days. Like: "I'll be kind of nice till somone says something I think could be wrong, then I go off swearing at them a bunch". I find that a very intollerable kind of attitude that doesn't belong here... or anywhere for that matter.
Sorry if I dragged out our discussion too much and I appologize if I have offended you in anyway. And wow can I ramble.... :)

First off I think you are under the impression that freeform and trancecore are different things, which is incorrect (what must we do to finally prove that!?!?), so until we find some common ground to work from I doubt we'll ever end this discussion. I've heard Sharkey discuss his involvement in the creation of the trancecore/freeform sound and it wasn't like how you described it, which is why I disagree with what you have said, because to this day Sharkey continues to head the scene he helped to create so I have faith in what he says. But now that we are sure that we aren't just flaming each other but rather having a discussion, I really would like to take this to Nu Energy and see what they think. But humor me with this. Listen to both tracks on this recent release and tell me whether you just hear sped-up trance or something completely better ;)

"First off I think you are under the impression that freeform and trancecore are different things, which is incorrect"
Oh, i didn't know that. I've heard the term "freeform" like twice in the last year and I don't really pay attention to all the new names cause you end up in discussions like this so I gave it all up... sorry, now I know they are the same :)
"(what must we do to finally prove that!?!?)"
Well, you never said they were but now that you did it is proven.
"I've heard Sharkey discuss his involvement in the creation of the trancecore/freeform sound and it wasn't like how you described it, which is why I disagree with what you have said"
Understandable.
"I really would like to take this to Nu Energy and see what they think."
Me too. I was extrememly involved in the Trance scene from '95-'98 and I remember when trancecore started, and all the music at the time, and the progression which is why I am saying what I am.
"But humor me with this. Listen to both tracks on this recent release and tell me whether you just hear sped-up trance or something completely better ;)

-Lixx"
Although I do like them A WHOLE LOT BETTER than current trance they do sound like old Hard Trance + Acid Tech minus the Nu Skool influence. All Acid lines and Hoovers/ Hoover Stabs, heavy bass, and heavy energy. But if you haven't heard older trance then I shouldn't expect you to understand where i'm coming from. I'd post links, but that music faded away a long time ago and I've failed to find any on the internet in the past few years. Maybe when I get my new soundcard i'll convert some of my vinyl to MP3 or something and give you a demo :)
And again I wasn't so much angry about a dispute in source knowledge as I was at having somone swear at me...

In general I agree with all that Soren said, but this Sharkey invented Trancecore is really getting on my wick!!! Have any of you heard of Billy Bunter? I was at Uni from 94 to 97 and Billy Bunter was doing trancecore a year before that, i saw him as well as Sharkey (who was play HHC coincidential with Hixxy) besides Ramos and marley were doing something similar 2 years before Bunter but they called it the intelligent side of Hardcore. Is it that you have never heard of them or so young that you feel Sharkey defined the style? Sharkey to me was a young dj/mc that helped Hixxy, Brisk and Breeze get the scene back on track; I know 28 must seem like a grandad, but I have been around since 89 and hope I still know what's going on!! If not can someone correct me
Your into the sound of Rebellion
