What's with this surge in putting mixes on Soundcloud and not have a download option, and most importantly, Why?

People assume followers and likes equals famous.... you want your DJ mixes heard not for "people to visit your page"... but that is not how the modern system works it seems.
It would be the same as back in the 90's making a mixtape and not handing it out to people. Come listen to it on my walkman, no you can't take a copy with you.
You want DJ bookings? Spread that shit as much as you can... want internet fame? buy followers to like and comment your mix... maybe get bookings that way?

I just feel back in the 2000s on here, people were posting mixes left and right to get the music out, not to keep it.

I also feel the same about people who don't post tracklists. Really annoys me.
I started on YouTube so couldn't make the mixes downloadable. I also have not so good internet shared with people who are almost always home when I am. So uploading files to an external sharing site was difficult.
When I initially got SoundCloud I saw the warning about sharing content that's not yours and got scared of making mixes downloadable. So then I did the external sharing site thing when I had the house to myself for a day. Gave text files with all the mix info and some nice artwork.
Eventually I realised it was ok to make SoundCloud mixes downloadable so just did that.
Just uploaded my 94th mix. All can be downloaded. :)

To be fair I forget to tick the download box on my SoundCloud haha, plus I think, do people still download mixes nowadays?
I'm the same with track lists though it gets on my nerves when ya hear a tune, check the mix and it's literally got nothing in the description. Not even a brief comment, let alone a track list! I try to tracklist all of my mixes

At some points I want to hide the tracklist so it becomes a surprise to whoever listens.
I used to have a javascript on my website that hide the tracklist until you clicked a button.

that's a pretty cool idea. so you would listen to the mix so you could enjoy and unknown tune coming into the mix, then get the name of it afterwards. I like it

Since I made all my mixes downloadable a few months ago they've had 77 downloads so yes people do still want to download them.
Although in comparison they've had about 6000 plays so not a large majority want to download but I'm a person who likes to download mixes I like. So I'm happy to make them downloadable.
