A few people got tripped out by one of my uploads. Maybe they thought that it was a bit dodgy?
I got me thinking that there where some actual releases that got released without any engineering taking place. Quite basic and amateur yet they got airplay.
Anyone got any examples?
This one sticks out for me. I like it though:

I was thinking of that one. Heard it in an old Grooverider set that I downloaded but lost. I actually like the track but it is raw as fcuk. It does have some love though as the Discogs comments say:
'Blinding tune. The messiness and off syncopation of this tune always messed with my head, but as a whole it has a great raw energy and feel to it. Still one of the "hits" of that year. It seems to tighten up at the end which makes me think the messiness of it was deliberate.'
'I always wondered what happened with this release by Sat (in) Storm? Its doesn't add up... The releases before were top notch! What I mean is the beats were tight. The acapella fitted in smoothly. The sound quality was superb for 1991 (and still is you audiophiles mofos!). But this was rushed out so quick that test pressings wernt done. Could they just not afford it? 1000 copies plus test presses were not cheap! Or were they so buzzed up from the night before that they thought 'f**k it lets just release it!" .. The raw energy of this tune makes the time of government ****wittery of 1992 make perfect sense! Now free your mind and the ...'
'Great tunes but what a distorted mess of a pressing'
'Raw and Pure, Let's get together is just pure hardcore, there are no excuses with it. The bass, the sample and the breaks, hardcore as it should be. Love this track back in the day it made you seriously listen to what was possible.'
'The whole track was made the rawest way possible- no quantizers, no gimmicks- NO SH...T!!! And this is how a classic is supposed to be made!!! 11/10 hands down, can?t beat the vibe and THAT BASS!!!'
Got to #4 in the UK despite being created on a cheap Casio keyboard. Bizzare.
Bizzare because it was 1996 and just think of the sheer amount of Eurodance or even just general dance music artists that could have produced it ...yes this is what they released.
Bonkers.
Like seriously, they couldn't even afford an amen??

Conversly though, there are all those tracks that are REALLY well produced, but yet they've for some reason just entirely neglected to add any kind of melody or interest to it. These ones confuse me even more than the other type - So much talent to create great SOUNDing music...but yet complete void of any kind of intelligence. Bizzare. One chord all the way through, it's only marginally worse than the hardcore these days where someones just plugged a whole load of notes into the piano roll because they musically make 'sense' but still sound wrong and random.
Can you imagine if they were ghost-produced. There'd be the engineer sitting in the studio creating a masterpiece...and then the guys like
"it's good an all, but can we make it not go up and down?"
"what, you mean like louder and softer?
"no no, like...the bit where the note gets higher"
"oh..you just want me to change the note a bit?"
"no, like just make them all the same note"
"...."
"Like....all of them...that'd would be bangin'
"All the sa..
"Yeah...all of them the same"
"....for the whole 8 minutes"
"yeah, wow that would be great"
"...well, I guess...I mean you are paying..."

Gimmicks always seem to be popular. Loads of good music gets overlooked IMO.
