Yo all,

I'm just interested to see what equipment / software people use for recording their mixes?

I currently use a Reloop Tape2, that I can plug into my mixer using the standard red & black phono cables. But i am thinking of changing my equipment & getting a XDJ-XZ but I've noticed they don't have a rec out...

I'm just testing the water to see what people use etc. I don't think my laptop is up to recording haha

...Is it now I should say I use VirtualDJ to mix? :P

I don't know what equipment to use, but always make sure to not record above -10dB if you intend to "master" afterwards.

And as long as you mic-in on your laptop support supports stereo, 16-bit and 44kHz (which I believe most mic-in ports have done since 2005), then it's good enough

Do you mean that you use your laptop while mixing and is not an option? I would dare say any pc post-2000 can handle recording a stereo input without a hiccup. Audacity(free)/Wavelab/Soundforge Audio Studio are all perfect options as far a software goes, if you don't already own some kind of DAW.

If you're looking for a portable solution, I've heard good things about Zoom recorders.

No mate, I've used audacity in the past for recording. I've found though that in an hours mix, it has usually in one or two places its skips, sort of like a cd skipping. Using that Reloop Tape2 is spot on. But moving forward I've noticed that newer products don't have a Rec out

Ohhhhh sorry didn?t read this right. The XDJ-XZ has a built in recording feature using the right USB port. You can play and record on the same USB at the same time.

I personally never use track mark or track splitting. You can do that later in software if you want to.

I haven't mate, I ended up getting a DJM 900 NXS2, great mixer. Ah do they? That is ideal then. I'm thinking of getting one of those as I keep having to re-arrange my setup when going from vinyl to cdj. I think one of those would be better as I could fit them all onto my unit together, Rather than having to swap my CDJ's over to the turntables. I've had those brackets that hold the CDJ above the turntables, but i am not a fan of that

Ideal that mind isn't it? Even better how you can split it simply with that button!

I use the DJM-REC App. Really good for use with the newer DJM mixers.

I?ve considered the XDJ-XZ. I could sell my setup buy one of those and have a few thousand left. Sadly my main issue with them is from the pictures I think the knobs are more cramped than the regular DJM?s, I?m also not a fan of the shorter level meters. Plus the screen Is 2 decks in 1.

I?m assuming it?s space that?s the issue? Not the connectivity of the mixer itself.

Not a fan of splitting. I like to have my mixes as one long file. To upload them it would be a real pain in the arse to join them back up again.

Also not a fan of Pioneer?s new Centre jog displays. Now it?s all messy and full of stuff.

Is it not just for showing when a new track comes in, like timestamping?

Yeah, possibly. I haven't either to be honest. I think I would prefer a go on one before taking the plunge and selling my mixer & cdj's to fund this purchase..
