Where's DJ Demand? |
|
Ever wondered what happened to hardcore producer and DJ Demand? We have spotted Demand on a new release on AATW. Interesting fact is that AATW (a commerical dance label) are promoting him as a hardcore DJ, further evidence AATW is pushing hardcore. Demand is releasing the track under the name Escape together with vocalist Marie, who also sang on AATW cover version of Paradise & Dreams. The debut single on the new group is called Flying Away. Good luck Demand!

Order: Limited blue MasterWax slipmat sets |
|
HappyHardcore.com and MasterWax records are giving you the chance to pickup an extremely limited blue edition MasterWax slipmat set (2 mats). As you can see the artwork below on the slipmat is amazing, what's more is that this artwork was commissioned for this slipmat design, yes that's right, this is not a scan of someone else work, it is not a rip off of someone else's work it is artwork drawn by a Japanese manga artist especially for these mats. MasterWax records have only made 25 sets of this rare blue edition collectors item and you can only buy it from HappyHardcore.com direct.
MasterWax went all out for these slipmat's quality wise. The slipmat's themselves are a baby soft material that caress the vinyl while offering exactly the right degree of slip and control. Manufactured with a mix of synthetic and natural fiber blends to create a super soft but resilient fabric with just the right amount of give. Unlike the mass produced "scouring pad" slipmats these slipmats were printed using the very latest techniques which leave no tactile print on the surface of the slipmat - the slipmats are as soft and smooth on the surface as they were prior to the print because the inks are transferred deep into the fibers, rather like a rug or carpet. The slipmat's have no plastic feel or appearance, these are the real deal!
We are selling a set (2 mats) including world wide shipping for 3,800 Japanese Yen which is axp. 19 UK Pounds / USD$37.20 / 27.70 Euro / CAD $44.40 / AUD $47.70.
These slipmat's look so good we did not want to sell them! Due to the limited nature this offer we are only offering them for sale for 5 days, we are sure we will sell out before that so if you want a set please order as soon as possible. Orders finish December 10th 2004 or when stock runs out so click the graphic or click here to order.
Please note: A set includes 2 slipmats.
Artwork + Real photo - absolutely no color difference after print!

Hardcore DJ's in the top 250 |
|
DJ Magazine posts their annual top 100 DJ as voted by the general public each year. Hardcore DJ's have not been in the top 100 for a while now as the chart has turned into a house / trance top 100 chart since the magazine itself does not regularly cover hardcore thus the readers are not hardcore / hard dance people. This year things are a little different, no sorry no hardcore DJ's got into the top 100 but a few managed to get into the top 250!
174: DJ Issac
179: Scott Brown
199: Hixxy
229: Darkraver

Listen to HappyHardcore.com radio ANYWHERE! |
|
HappyHardcore.com radio is expanding, move over FM broadcasts we have blown off our internet PC boundaries and moved wireless! As more and more wireless points and devices make they way out to market we have found we are getting listeners on HappyHardcore.com from new places that were not possible even this time last year.
We received an email last weekend telling us of just one of these experiences where a listener and fan of HappyHardcore.com radio was able to listen to the radio in their car driving from Texas to Colorado for 98% of the ride. How is this possible? With Pocket PC's like the HP iPAQ h6315 with built in WiFi (wireless internet) and T-mobile (unlimited mobile data connection) if you in the US or unlimited Vodaphone if your in Australia or AirH if your in Japan, our fan was able to tune into HappyHardcore.com radio and plug the audio output of the Pocket PC into the audio in of the car stereo. Not only can you listen to HappyHardcore.com radio in the car you can you use your pocket pc as a walkman and listen to HappyHardcore.com radio anywhere you can get a mobile phone signal which these days is nearly anywhere!
As flat rate unlimited wireless data plans for internet connections are now a reality and every day the prices of the hardware drops we can see a future were you will be able to tune into us anywhere on the planet. |

Nukleuz back with hardcore + return of Power Station Records! |
|
Amazing news fresh from the wire tells us that Nukleuz are back releasing hardcore tunes and in a big way. Last year saw a few releases from the massive prominently hard house / trance label but this time around Nukleuz are to release a hardcore EP! Since hardcore distribution has cleared / cleaned up as of late it makes it much easier for labels such as Nukleuz that might not be so familiar with hardcore to release it.
The first release due out 29th of November 2004 will be on Nukleuz Records called Hardcore EP: 4 To The Core featuring the following tracks:
A1: Elemental - Reach Out (The Hixxy Mix)
A2: Visa - Don't Go Away
B1: Visa - All I Need
B2: Darren Styles & Mark Breeze Present Futureworld - Chemical Love (Hardcore Breakbeat Mix)
The second piece of news is a second release out 6th December 2004 on the new re-launched Power Station Recordings releasing the classic hardcore tune Fly Away by Visa! We have been in contact with Nukleuz and they have told us that it is the original track with some other trance remixes on the other side. Power Station is the label that launched Clock & Visa in the mid 90s.
Shop.HappyHardcore.com will feature both releases!

John Peel RIP |
|
Veteran BBC Radio UK radio disc jockey John Peel died yesterday while on holiday in Peru. He was 65 years old. He was in the ancient Inca city of Cuzco when he suffered a fatal heart attack. John Peel was a presenter that was not scared of playing what he liked. Many people said that John Peel was responsible helping a lot of underground bands breaking into the commercial scene by playing their demo tunes on the radio far before ever being released. John Peel also supported hardcore music and regularly played hardcore and gabber tunes on UK BBC Radio 1 (a UK national broadcast).
A few hardcore tracks and CDs have been released around the legend John Peel, probably the most noticeable is the hardcore track CLSM - John Peel (not enough) and the limited Bonkers John Peel Hixxy session CD. He will be sadly missed.
We have had tons of emails and forum posts about this sad news. Many thanks to all the alert users that quickly posted the news.

Who's the heart in heartbeatz? |
|
The singer of Heartbeatz has sent over HappyHardcore.com some information about herself and a profile shot. Introducing Karen Danzig (pictured below) the singer behind Breeze & Styles - Heartbeatz. Karen is also working with Flip & Fill so I'm sure we should expect to see and hear more of Karen in the future. Karen as also said that she is an artist on the AATW release of HeartBeatz, this could either the release artists in the format of: Styles & Breeze feat. Karen Danzig, or Styles & Breeze & Karen Danzig or even Karen Danzig - (Styles & Breeze remix), maybe even Styles & Breeze presents Karen Danzig. Only time will tell here.
There was a semi mystery on the internet around the track HeartBeatz and who actually sang the track, we are glad we have the complete info now.

Bonkers 13 tracklist and final artwork! |
|
Touchdown! HappyHardcore.com has the goods on Bonkers 13 including the complete tracklist!. Artwork featured below is 100% final, it seems red is the color for Bonkers 13 and not black. HappyHardcore.com moderator Comet points out that red should make Bonkers 13 easier for autographs if your lucky enough :)
Very interesting release if we do say so, Hixxy's disc dubbed "Hixxy’s Old Skool Killa Kutz" contains so many classic Happy Hardcore tracks dating back 5-8 years in some cases. Something for everyone on Bonkers 13, Hixxy with classic Happy Hardcore, Sharkey with freeform, Scott Brown with Scott's own unique hardcore style and Dougal with a the newer trancer hardcore sound.
Bonkers 13 - Hardcore Horror Show will be released October 25th 2004 can be pre-ordered NOW!.

Hullaba-bye-bye |
|
News from Toronto, Canada is that the famous and well respected (happy) hardcore party series Hullabaloo is coming to an end as of July 2005. Anabolic Frolic who has been running the Hullabaloo parties has left a nice parting message on the official Hullabaloo web site (copied to the forum link in this news post) and we can only speculate that Anabolic (who recently has started a new family) does not have the time to juggle both his hardcore passion and parental commitments and this is why the parties are coming to an end. HappyHardcore.com wish him all the best in his future endeavors as he has certainly opened a lot people to hardcore in North America.
Hullabaloo is arguable the largest and longest running hardcore parties series in North America. |

Where does Amazon get its hardcore info from? |
|
Where does Amazon get its hardcore info from? From HappyHardcore.com and we have proof that one of the biggest retailers in the world gets (without our permission) their hardcore information directly from us. Check Amazon's Hardcore till I die 2 page - you will notice that the CD jacket graphic (click for larger image) still has our watermark embedded into the graphic. The tracklist exactly matches our hardcore till I die 2 tracklist page format.
Everything on HappyHardcore.com is of course copyright to HappyHardcore.com and can not be re-produced without our direct permission, but interesting to see where the big guys "get" their info from.
Big up's to all the people that reported this to us. |

A new hardcore label is set to hit center stage in the upcoming months named Lethal Theory and is headed up by Joey Riot and the first release is looking very promising. The release with both a Sy & Unknown remix and a Paulos & Re-con remix (from the Upcoming label Monkey Business) makes for some good tunage. Heartbeatz, Flip n Fill and all around the world |
|
As reported a few months ago on HappyHardcore.com the next big hardcore tune by Styles & Breeze to be released on AATW (and to the mass commercial market) is the hardcore anthem HeartBeatz. AATW have released information saying that the promo will be out in a few weeks!
A bit of trivia for everyone is that the vocals on the release come from singer Karen Danzig who as well as working with Styles & Breeze has also been in the studio with Flip & Fill.
AATW have also released the statement (typo and grammar corrected):
Styles & Breeze are also working on their debut album and you can expect to hear much more of the Styles & Breeze song-writing team in the future which has provided top 5 singles for Ultrabeat as well as pending hits for Flip & Fill, Kelly Llorenna and of course their own releases.
Keyword here "pending hits" - Are Flip n Fill to cover more hardcore tunes or release brand new songs written by Styles & Breeze for Flip n Fill and Kelly Llorenna? Time will tell, we will keep you posted. |

MasterWax release news 8 + 9! |
Author: silver
|
MasterWax Records are proud to present the next two releases in the series. These babies have already seen test presses and are in final pressing at the moment so you can expect them both early next month! We have also done FULL COLOR labels this time around, we think the new designs totally rock!
MasterWax 8 (MWX008) is a very special release, it marks DJ Fade's last hardcore track before going into retirement. Guiding light is a absolutely outstanding track that and has already seen two CD compilation releases before the vinyl release (Hardcore Tsunami 2 (order) / Speed Trance - Type 4 (order)). We packed this release with three solid mixes DeeJayBee & Overflow of Infinity Recordings and Essential Platinum, DJ Weaver of RaverBaby and of course the original track, each with their own flavor but all sure banging anthems! Don't take my word for it, let the audio do the talking.
MWX008
A1: Impact & Fade feat. Kelly - Guiding Light (Deejaybee & Overflow Remix)
AA1: Impact & Fade feat. Kelly - Guiding Light (Weaver Remix)
AA2: Impact & Fade feat. Kelly - Guiding Light (Original mix)
Impact & Fade feat. Kelly - Guiding Light
For MasterWax 9 we picked up with new school meets oldskool, Gammer needs no introduction and is one of the youngest and most talented producers in the hardcore scene, he is responsible for nearly every release on Essential Platinum one way or another and there seems no be nothing stopping him. Gammer and Mickey Skeedal team up for two banging tracks In Darkness which was featured on the Hardcord Tsunami 2 (order) compilation and for the B side Hardcore Revolution another juicy hardcore tune. Again let the audio do the talking.
MWX009
A: Gammer & Mickey Skeedale - Into Darkness
B: Gammer & Mickey Skeedale - Hardcore Revolution

HappyHardcore.com turns 5 years old |
|
It was a warm afternoon in September 1999 that DJ Silver was searching around for a good website address, entering in HappyHardcore.com he noticed nothing was there..... the rest is history. HappyHardcore.com has gone from *very* simple beginnings to the largest hardcore dance website in the world though the amazing strength of hardcore music and its followers. This month HappyHardcore.com turns 5 years old as well as HappyHardcore.com radio which is the longest running hardcore radio station in the world (we have not stopped broadcasting hardcore for 5 years!)

Release date for Amato hardcore |
|
Since the departure of Alphamagic (the ex-largest hardcore distributor in the world) hardcore releases have been a little thin as of late. Left over from this departure is Amato and IMO Distribution as the two major distributors for UK hardcore in the world. IMO Distribution have been in the distribution game for a while and nothing has changed there, Amato the new gun to hardcore distribution has stepped up and taken onboard many hardcore labels.
News today is that Amato have set release dates for their first major round of hardcore distribution to stores. This date will be September 27th 2004, please note this is a date that stores can buy these vinyl's, not the actual date they go on sale, but it shouldn't be to much difference we think. Here is a list of the first releases:
Nu Energy (NUNRG041)
Relentless Vinyl (RLNT007)
Quosh Records (QSHLTD005)
Next Generation (NG032)
Future Dance (FD009)
This is just a list of the first releases on sale not a complete list of hardcore labels to be available at Amato. |

HappyHardcore.com radio goes top 40! |
|
HappyHardcore.com radio over the weekend broke into the top 40 streaming shoutcast internet radio stations in the world at position 38!. This is massive and amazing at the same time, the number of internet radio stations sits somewhere around 10,000 and to make it even in the top 100 is a good ranking let alone position 38.
Massive respect to all the global hardcore listeners of the station that have shown to the rest of the dance community just what hardcore is about and how much global support the music has! |

Executives only |
|
Australia has a massive hardcore party scene, arguably biggest in the world but severely lacks hardcore producers. A few Australians have made their marks on the hardcore scene, DJ Daydream being one of them. In the past few years Australian producers have been coming back with a vengeance, leader of the march would have to be DJ Weaver with several releases on Raver Baby and the bonkers CD series.
Good new this week is that a new Australian based hardcore label is set to launch shortly called Executive Records featuring a ton of new Australian hardcore talent. We have label logo artwork and audio for everyone to check out.

Exposure 2004 set times and changes |
|
As the exposure festival 2004 draws nearer and we are in final 24 hours before the event starts. This year hardcore is featuring for the first time with HappyHardcore.com organizing the hardcore arena. As you can understand this festival of this size has been on the planning table for the last six month and all DJ bookings were done 3 months ago. Since that time alot of things have happened in the hardcore scene with the two major ones being React and Alphamagic both going bankrupt. This has created massive problems for the labels and artists as all the money owed to them has now gone forever. Because of this a majority of major artists and labels are now under contractual agreements that prohibit them playing new unreleased material on media outlets that might be featured on future albums (to be released - like Bonkers 13 or HTID 2 for example). This only became know to everyone involved 3 days ago and since then we have frantically put together a new DJ lineup for the exposure festival that we think you will like (DJ's and set times listed below).
The online event starts Friday September 10, 2004 (tomorrow) at the following times - United Kingdom 3pm, USA East Coast 10am, USA West Coast 7am, Australia East Coast 12am, Australia West Coast 10pm and Japan 11pm.
The set times are as follows (time @ GMT)
1500 - 1600 : Comet and Infinitron
1600 - 1730 : DJ Impact
1730 - 1930 : Uraken
1930 - 2030 : Ruboy
2030 - 2130 : CLSM
2130 - 2230 : Brisk & Ham
2230 - 2300 : Sy & Unknown
2300 - 2340 : DeeJayBee and Overflow
2340 - 0040 : DJ Weaver
0040 - 0340 : DJ Silver
0340 - 0510 : Phosphor and justrich
0510 - 0610 : Cloudskipper and No left turn
0610 - 0740 : Ruffage
You should be able to work out based on the start time in your area who's playing when in your part of the world.

HTID 2 CD artwork + Bonkers 13 info |
|
The artwork and complete tracklisting has landed for the Hardcore til I die 2, you saw it here first. News on the release is that the DJ's mixing it up over 2 CD's are Hixxy, Re-con, Dougal and UFO, what's more interesting about this release is that each disc contains 4 unmixed and unreleased tracks (the last 4 tracks of each disc) for CD-J DJ's! The release date for the Hardcore til I die 2 CD is September 27th 2004.
You can pre-order hardcore til I die 2 CD now for only 7.99 pounds!
News on Bonkers 13 is that artwork is getting a re-vamp and a theme redesign, we were hoping that we would also have that artwork today, but unfortunately we will have to wait 3 weeks for that one. The Bonkers 13 artwork we are told will be cartoony again ala Bonkers 12 artwork. The release date of Bonkers 13 will either be October 25th 2004 or November 1st 2004 (which might or might not hint to the theme of the release).
Hixxy, Re-con, Dougal & UFO are HTID 2!

Legal downloads arrive on the hardcore scene |
|
Last week marks the start of arguably the biggest new hardcore legal download site on the net at IMODownload.com. Many new labels have signed up to the store including Remix Reloaded, Impact, Warped Science and more. In discussions with the IMODownload crew they have reported that after a few teething problems everything is in full swing and tracks are flying out the door or in this case down the internet pipe!
IMODownload are first to pioneer DRM technology onto the hardcore tracks enabling a more secure way of getting the tracks your looking for and offering the artists and labels some protection from thief sharing.
Other new legal download sites are of course Evolution Records download site, which this week announced 6 new Evolution Records tracks to legally purchase and download.
Quosh records don't have a download option per say but you can buy all their tracks on CD as singles with their on create your own compilation CD section.
And last but not least the Hyperbeatz crew have their own legal download offering all the new and old tunes.
How will this new technology shape the hardcore scene? Only time will tell, anything that promotes hardcore music HappyHardcore.com welcomes. Piracy and P2P networks are a major problem for hardcore as it's a small genre and the difference of 100 units of sales can often make the difference between an artist / label being able to continue producing hardcore or not. These download services are there to service the needs of customers that want to get hard to find hardcore tunes and new tunes which has been lacking in the past. Alot of people have wanted services like this to start up but it's upto you the customers to make sure people don't abuse these systems. |

Just another Just Another Label |
|
After an extended hiatus "Just Another Label" (JAL) relaunches in 2004 with an impressive array of new talent and material. While most the new JAL releases will have a "current" flavor we are told, due note of the label's long and distinguished history as been taken into account. JAL stated to HappyHardcore.com that instead of merely emulating the popular sound of the moment, JAL is intended to be at the forefront of innovation whilst still being consistently appealing to as many ravers, and listeners, as possible. The initial releases are on the 4/4 tip, but there will be breakbeat hardcore releases to come in the near future we have been told.
The first of the new releases is JAL042, and this is due out on Special Limited Edition While Label imminently and will be in store.
JAL042
A: Triple J - Seventh Heaven (Main floor mix)
AA: Triple J - Seventh Heaven - (Alternate mix)
JAL043
A: Q-Project - Champion Sound - (Darwin remix)
AA: Q-Project - Champion Sound (Storm & Spinback remix)
JAL044
A: Darwin feat Ant Johnson - Take a Ride (Original mix)
AA - Darwin feat Ant Johnson - Take a Ride (Gammer remix)
There is also additional material due out later this year on JAL from "Darwin", "Mentholated Spirits", "Bubleee" and more ...

Bonkers 13 + Hardcore till I die 2 CD |
|
HappyHardcore.com has news on the new upcoming Bonkers release. The next Bonkers will official be 13 and not 14 as possibly rumored. It is semi traditional to sometimes skip the 13th release for supposititious reasons.
Bonkers 13 will be a 4 CD release, all the DJ's are 90% confirmed, HappyHardcore.com will announce the DJ names once the ink is dry on the contracts. The CD is due for release in autumn (spring for the Aussies) and will feature a new TV commercial.
Hardcore till I die 2 (pre-order) release date has been bumped up one week to Sept 27th 2004. The DJ's are also confirmed but again we can't release the names until the ink is dry on the contract. Stay tuned! |

This is Noize 2 |
|
A new "This is Noize" album is to be released in North American November 15th 2004 from Majestic Records funnily enough called "This is Noize 2". You might remember the first "This is noize" released from Hixxy & Force & Styles back in 1999. The new release will be a single CD mixed by North America's own Sunrize with the CD on sale everywhere (Amazon, Best Buy, Virgin, etc...) we are told. When contacted about the CD release Sunrize added:
We have put together a winning track selection of nearly all new and currently unreleased tunes from some of hardcore's household name's as well as some new faces.
Since moonshine stupidly decided to stop releasing their biggest selling CD Happy2BHardcore North America has been without it's own hardcore CD. Looks like things have changed for the better.
This is Noize 1 - Will the v2 cover look the same?

Alpha aftermath |
|
Since the collapse of Alphamagic (the former largest hardcore 12" distributor in the world) - record store hardcore section's have been getting a little dry. Good news is that all major labels have new distribution deals and several have even started new sub labels with those distributors. It should take about 4-5 weeks for the all the labels to start to get back to regular releases again from the new distributors. |

Bonkers 13 DJ's and Sharkey's new album |
|
The DJ magazine article posted earlier today reveals alot more than just hardcore. The magazine is quoted as saying "Bonkers 13" is due end of the year (semi confirming that the next bonkers will be 13 and not 14 - it is not uncommon to skip a release 13 for superstitious reasons). The magazine article also says that the DJ's will be Hixxy, Sharkey and Scott Brown. Sharkey's second artist album is due early 2005. HappyHardcore.com is not 100% sure on this news as there is no mention to the "best of bonkers" album that was support to be released this year or Hardcore Till I Die 2 which is confirmed to be released October 5th 2004. Resist are still not commenting on either Best of Bonkers or Bonkers 13 so your guess is as good as ours. |

DJ Mag (a well respected UK DJ music magazine) has done a two page article on Hardcore. Sharkey, Hixxy, Breeze & Styles, Luna-C and the CLSM are mentioned just to name a few.

Amato picking up the pieces |
|
Amato is a large distributor in the UK, in fact one the largest hard house / trance in the UK. Since Alphamagic, formally largest hardcore distributor in the world left the picture record labels have been making new deals all over the place. Formally not known for it's hardcore Amato has taken in alot of new hardcore labels as well as some smaller hardcore distributors. Why is this important? Amato has a very large global reach, is a respectable company and has the ability to push hardcore much larger and better than AlphaMagic could ever had done. Great news for hardcore, it only gets bigger from here. |

React to Resist |
|
React Music - one of the most successful and internationally revered independent record labels as well as creator of the Bonkers hardcore CD series - is no more. In its place, a new company, Resist Music, has been set up by React's James Horrocks and Melissa Kemp and has since acquired the staff, rights and catalogue of React and is now officially open for business.
Although React was enjoying its best period of turnover and profit for 5 years, the label was owed in excess of £1,000,000 in distributed income from 4am/Flute, part of the Beechwood Music group of companies that went into voluntary administration in June. Following Beechwood’s closure, React was unable to extract any monies due or trade out of such debts and as a result the label was forced into voluntary administration on 16th June 2004.
During its 14 year history the label became a leading force in dance music and club culture, synonymous with cutting edge compilations and singles through series that included Reactivate, Drum & Bass Arena, Bonkers, Café Del Mar, Good Times, Dope On Plastic and Real Ibiza, as well as classic singles such as Candi Staton's 'You Got The Love', and Age Of Love's 'Age Of Love'. Each release reflected a particular moment in dance music’s history, and more often than not, React became an important catalyst in bringing that scene, sound, or DJ to mainstream attention. The results were such that the label became a commercial force to be reckoned with, as sales of some series reached upwards of 600,000 units.
This news has been around for a while as rumors but from next week Resist will release a press release official annouching the change with an article in Music Week (a large UK music industry based magazine). HappyHardcore.com has been in contact with Resist since learning about this a few weeks back and there is no change in releases, the Hardcore Till I die 2 CD is still set for October 5th 2004 as well as a new Bonkers CD towards the end of the year.

New hardcore from AATW |
|
HappyHardcore.com has done some major news digging and come up with some juicy information on upcoming hardcore releases on AATW. The new track from Dougal & Styles that has been announced on AATW website is actually NOT the "Love of my life" remix that HappyHardcore.com originally speculated it was, the love of my life remix will be released by a different group (to be announced).
The Styles & Dougal track that is slated for release is actually Styles & Dougal - Shining Down - a remake of the original Force & Styles track. Styles & Dougal have had two tracks signed to AATW with Shining down being the first with another yet to be announced track.
HappyHardcore.com didn't stop there... The next Breeze & Styles track to be released from AATW is 100% confirmed to be the massive hardcore hit on RaverBaby Breeze & Styles - Heartbeats... oh and it gets better... the AATW promo which is due in two weeks will contain three hardcore mixes! Those hardcore mixes will be by Re-con, Scott Brown and of course the original hardcore mix plus a Hixxy hard trance mix and a Rezonance Q trance mix. The full release will be out in 2-3 months.
AATW is so impressed with hardcore and the hardcore scene they actually want the hardcore mix on there and apparently signed You're Shining directly from the original hardcore mix! |

Alot of new hardcore has been finding it's way out of North America and onto the global hardcore table. A longer term pilot of US hardcore is Cloudskipper. HappyHardcore.com's own Milo takes 5 minutes with the "skip" in Cloudskipper's HappyHardcore.com interview. |

Alphamagic bankrupt |
|
News out of the UK is that the world's biggest hardcore distributor AlphaMagic has declared bankruptcy and closed its doors. After several different discussions with all the major hardcore label involved with distribution via Alphamagic most of the labels had already found new distribution methods or have deals in the works with other distributors.
This is not a new thing for distribution companies and does not reflect the current state of hardcore or hardcore vinyl sales and will not effect long term sales of hardcore so hardcore vinyl lovers need not worry or panic. |

Breeze & Styles signed for more AATW releases |
|
Yesterday saw the release of the commercial dance release of the massive hardcore tune You're Shining. All Around the World (AATW), the label that have released the new version, have updated their information regarding Breeze & Styles stating:
Wait til you hear the other stuff that's coming up. (referring to Breeze & Styles).
This leaves us to believe that Breeze & Styles are signed to released more material after the You're Shining release.
Even more interesting is with regards to promotion of the new single AATW are pushing the hardcore angle which is great, AATW are quoted as saying:
This week sees the single from those masters of the hardcore scene Styles & Breeze - with You're Shining
Much respect to AATW for promoting Breeze & Styles as hardcore artists to a commercial audience, and congratulations to Breeze & Styles. You can show your support for hardcore by buying the single.

Happy2BHardcore2BNoMore |
|
HappyHardcore.com has contacted Moonshine, the label that releases the popular US CD Happy2BHardcore, mixed by Anabolic-Frolic. When asked on upcoming hardcore projects including the possibility of a Happy2BHardcore 8, we receive word that Moonshine is no longer interested in releasing hardcore.
HappyHardcore.com find's this move strange since Happy2BHardcore was one of Moonshine's top selling CD's. It seems Moonshine don't even look at their own sales numbers... A blow to US hardcore lovers today, but not a problem since there are many many more hardcore CD's new and old coming out all the time. |

The Prodigy back to hardcore beats? |
|
The Prodigy have been around since hardcore music really kicked off in the early 90's. Their style change / evolved over the years, and in a nutshell became less hardcore / electronic and more punk / rock. On September 14th 2004, The Prodigy will return with their long awaited new album, Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned. Liam Howlett (The Prodigy's main man) while talking to MTV Europe remarked that the new record would see a return to the sound of 1994's "Music for the Jilted Generation, album from 1994. Howlett said:
"I wanted to make a record that was more old school, like our second album. I wanted to make it sexier and go back to the beats."
The Prodigy are going back to their hardcore roots, they even admit it, bar the use of the word "hardcore" they are back with more break beaty, twisted funkiness but this time around with more of a public mass exposure to hardcore music.
HappyHardcore.com has audio clips featured from the new The Prodigy album, check it out:

Hardcore goes all around the world |
|
A ton of hardcore producers and artists and now working with the dance label AATW (All around the world) to release some commercially appealing tracks for customers that would probably never hear a hardcore track in their life. AATW have updated their release schedule and it a few interested things are worth noting. Styles & Dougal are scheduled for a release shortly - we can only assume this is "Love of my life" remix that has been playing around for a while now.
Another piece of interesting news is "Eyeopener - Hungry Eyes", Eyeopener was the artist that released the commercial version of Eyeopener (hardcore name) or Open your eyes (commercial trance version), this new track we can only assume is a cover of the eighty's song Hungry eyes, but will be interesting to see if a hardcore mix is starts to get played out as did the Hixxy mix of Eyeopener.
In other news - Breeze & Styles' new music video with commercial trance version of You're Shining has hit the top 10 rankings on the box (a UK based television music video channel). |

Some serious hardcore numbers |
|
Congratulations and thanks to everyone that tuned into yesterday's live show with DJ Silver on HappyHardcore.com Radio. In case you missed it we managed to get over 820 (including premium members) people simultaneously tuned in for the show from every reach of the world - we even had people in Iraq tuned in. In fact we had so many people listening that our 56k stream maxed in 45secs! While the show was underway we increased the 56k limits to three times the regular amount and will continue with the new expanded stream capacity going forward.
Numbers don't lie, we would have been happy to have gotten 600 people, but 800 is out the world - if you know something about internet radio broadcasting you will know how massive these numbers are.
HappyHardcore.com radio and hardcore itself is fueled by the people listening - thanks to everyone that tuned in your're all part of hardcore history. Look for more live to air shows very soon including added video streaming. Let's get 1,000 hardcore fans tuned in for the next round! |

Hardcore's popular? Here's the proof! |
|
HappyHardcore.com radio continues to make large strives forward in hardcore as we push the hardcore sound. In the last 12 months HappyHardcore.com radio has grown quite heavily.... We did the numbers today and we had to re-do the numbers... but numbers don't lie.
This time last year we were clocking axp. 10,000 - 11,000 TLH (total listening hours in the last 30 days*) we ran the numbers today and are proud to say we are officially 22+ times larger than we were the same time last year, that's right... we have clocked over 220,000 TLH in the past 30 days and this number continues to rise daily!
HappyHardcore.com radio has also moved up to position 55 in the world in the streaming mp3 broadcast charts, now outranking every hard house station on the list
Many thanks to all the regular listeners on the station - we will continue to provide for you :)
UPDATE - 2004/5/18 - We moved up overnight to position 53 in the world in the streaming mp3 broadcast charts.
* TLH is the summary of total hours people listened to the radio for. e.g. If 200 people listened to the radio for 1 hour then that would be 200 hours of TLH) |

HappyHardcore.com in top 60 internet radio station! |
|
HappyHardcore.com radio the longest running and most popular hardcore radio station in the world has broke more listener and ranking records! HappyHardcore.com Radio and it's partner Digitally Imported Hardcore have entered the top 60 internet shoutcast / MP3 radio stations in the world at position 59! This figure should actually be much higher as we broadcast as well with Windows Media Servers which are not counted in this ranking. Another interesting point is we are now out ranking our sister channel the Digitally Imported HardHouse channel
Last week Friday the 7th of May 2004 also saw a new peak simultaneous listener record at 598 people all listening to the radio station at same time, this is bigger than most average hardcore events!

Serious upgrades for serious hardcore fans |
|
HappyHardcore.com has had some massive growth in the last 6-12 months and we have done some serious upgrades to a few of our servers to help us. Firstly we have quadrupled the memory in the web server and database servers to help handle the traffic load at peak times and generally speed up the site.
The big news is that we have replaced our radio server with a new cluster that should not flake out when we go over about 420 listeners. The new server virtually has no listening cap and unlimited connections making us the biggest and most popular fully licensed, 24 hour hardcore radio station in the world (w00t). Many thanks to all the peeps that tune in to the radio, once the dust settles and any problems ironed out on the new server more true to air live shows will be starting.
All these upgrades are much in part to our most excellent donating members. |

HTID2 + The Best of Bonkers! |
|
Bad news for hardcore till I die CD fans the CD from React "Hardcore till I die 2" has been delayed to September 2004 due to the fact the tracks are not in order just yet. We have also been told that the DJ's have changed to Hixxy + one other yet to be announced DJ.
The good news? Bonkers lives on! HappyHardcore.com has confirmed that there is life after Bonkers 12, in the form of The Best of Bonkers due to be released near the end of 2004. There was speculation that Bonkers 12 was to be the last in the series as that is how far the Bonkers DJ contract's were signed to. Bonkers 12 remains at the number 7 spot in the UK compilation charts this week, the highest ever for any React release!
With such good sales on Bonkers 12 it's pretty much a certainty that a Bonkers 13 released after The Best of Bonkers release would be a safe bet.
Bonkers 12 is a 4 disc CD release mixed by Hixxy, Sharkey, Scott Brown and Breeze & Styles released April 12th 2004. It can be ordered here now. |

Tom Wilson RIP |
|
Unfortunately earlier today the much loved and respected DJ, Tom Wilson from Scotland and Radioforth (forthone), ReZerection, Stepping Out fame, sadly and very suddenly passed away today, our heart felt warmth goes out to his family and I'm sure you will all join in with messages of support for a true legend and pioneer of the Scottish dance scene.
Tom Wilson has an album coming out on Rumour Records very shortly, it is unclear at the moment if this will be released due to this sad news, but very fitting as a tribute album if it did get released.
Background on Tom Wilson:
Tom Wilson has been at the forefront of the Scottish dance scene for more years than he cares to remember! His legendary dance show on Forth FM ran since 1985. Because the show was only broadcast to East and Central Scotland, dance fans would go to extraordinary lengths to hear it. It's a fact that 5 guys from Newcastle would all pile into an old Transit van every Saturday and drive up to an area in Scotland where they could hear it! Tapes of the show were sent all over the place, that's why you often heard Tom doing requests for listeners in Canada, Australia or Hong Kong! This was before the Internet sent radio signals across the globe. Tom is also a music producer and has released around 10 singles including the club classic 'Technocat' which gave him a top 40 hit in the UK and charted in several European countries.

Hardcore till I die 2 update |
|
HappyHardcore.com has been in touch with React on yesterday's release date of Hardcore till I die 2. The March 8th 2004 date is not going to be the release date, it was an early release date that somehow slipped out to stores.
But the other news is that Hardcore till I die 2 will be mixed by a different DJ to the first one, we don't know who it is yet, but if we were to guess a *safeish* bet would be Hixxy & UFO due to the fact the RaverBaby is involved on this release and the Bonkers 12 release already has Breeze & Styles mixing the 4th disc (this is a guess please don't quote us). |

Hardcore till I die 2 in March 2004? |
|
Hardcore till I die is a budget CD released from React, the 2nd CD in the series was suppose to be released before or around the time Bonkers 12 was released (around summer time), but Amazon has the title listed as being released March 8th 2004! React are not confirming nor denying this is the actual release date. You can check out the pre-order the release now if this in fact is the actual release date.
On another note, to concerns on our news - HappyHardcore.com news is confirmed from multiple sources we never post anything that is a Rumor or speculation, if it's posted here it's a fact. |

Totally Bonkers! |
|
HappyHardcore.com has the exclusive scoop on Bonkers 12 from React. Firstly Bonkers 12 for the first time will be 4 CD pack! Talk about some hardcore madness... The CD's will be mixed by Hixxy, Sharkey, Scott Brown and the 4th disk to be mixed by Breeze & Styles! Bonkers 12 will see a release date "a bit before summer" (direct quote).
Update: Sharkey has released the artists featured on his disc: Sharkey, K-Komplex, Energy, A.M.S, Marc Smith, C.L.S.M, Vagabond, Lost Souls, Marc Ashley, Robbie Long, Stormtrooper, Scott Majestic, Wizbit, Ponder, Impact, Invader, Stargazer, Ting, Dougal, Gammer, Andy Vinyl and Matt Style
As reported a few months back Bonkers 3 has gone gold (in sales), React will be releasing a special limited gold edition of Bonkers 3 as well as a limited silver edition of Bonkers 1 (which has gone silver in sales), they will both be released 29th of March 2004.
The artwork does not look the best on screen but the silver and gold areas on the artwork below are reflective silver and gold!

Rapture TV covering hardcore |
|
Rapture TV is a music channel available on satellite / cable TV in Europe similar to MTV or VH1 in other countries. HappyHardcore.com has learnt that Rapture TV have been filming and reviewing a few UK hardcore events in past few months and plan to film more in the future the for their channel.
Apparently Rapture TV have got plans to start devoting a lot more time to new breeds of music that aren't generally popular with the commercial groups... i.e. hardcore music! |

The ghost of DNA gives out free hardcore |
|
Remember the hardcore producer DNA? Why did he leave the hardcore scene? DNA has explained this before in our forums. We'll run over it quickly in case you are new:
DNA was booked to play a Slammin Vinyl gig a few years about, he turned up with a load of brand new dub plates featuring lots of unheard breakbeat tracks. As it goes DNA mixed it up with some new Drum & Bass records and according to DNA got the best crowd reaction of any set he had ever played, not to mention best MC reaction, best stage dancer reaction, best reaction from a promoter that booked me on the spot, best reaction from Mark EG who missed his next gig to stay and dance.. etc.
Of course, that didn't stop some miserable people in the UK trying to persuade everyone that it had been a total failure, the resulting cluster**** of message board politics being the final straw for me. DNA killed the DNA name and left the scene as a response.
Most of the those Slammin Vinyl dub plates were smashed or given away in anger and frustration and the dat tape masters were destroyed. DNA didn't know any had survived until he received a scratched up old CD in the mail from good friend Ponder.
DNA has decided to relenquished copyright on these tracks and give them away for free at 160k MP3's. These tracks are 3 years old and do not have track names, they are as they were played those years back at Slammin Vinyl and with the power of the internet they are offered to everyone for free!
Due to the size of the download (30 megs zipped) we are not sure how long the bandwidth of the side hosting them will hold up, we will keep the link or mirrors updated as long as we can.
Update: Server has been overloaded and files removed. We will keep you informed if we can get a mirror up. |

DJ Fade fades from hardcore... |
|
DJ Fade has announced he has retired from hardcore music stating he needs a change and a break from "the rave scene". It's sad to see a talented producer leave hardcore, we wish Fade all the best with whatever you get upto. Here are Fade's last words:
It is with this post that I am announcing my official retirement from the rave scene, a decision that has not been easy as it has had a major influence on my life for the last 11 years, and provided many fantastic memories, wicked nights, and great crowds in many cities and towns arond the world. I have met so many people of all nationalities, all sharing a common love of the music.
I have been through all aspects of the scene, starting off as a DJ in 1993, (Thanks to Jungle Nation and Tazzmania), then moving into production in 1994 (Thanks to Martin aka Krafty Cuts for releasing my first single), promoting and financing a rave in 1995 where I lost £9000 in one night ( a harsh lesson in promoting), and then concentrating on production and DJ'ing. I have seen all the highs and lows, good and bad, honest people and severly dishonest people who leech of other peoples talents for their own gains. Oh well, what goes round comes round as they say, or is it dont kick someone on the way up as you'll get kicked twice as hard on your way back down ?? Some people will learn one day, I know I can leave the scene with my head held high, I have never scammed anyone financially and pay people who work for me, unlike some..
It is going to be 11 years I will never forget, and after having released over 100 record releases over the years, plus ones I engineered for other people, it adds up to a pretty large figure, on that I am proud of.
In the last couple of years I have taken a large step back, exploring other avenues to stimulate my brain, 11 years of kick drums have taken their toll, and I need a change of pace into something else.........??????
I'm also selling my main record collection, although I am keeping the best ones behind, I am selling over 260 records, many many very rare classics dating back to 1991, the list is available in Excel spreadsheet format by emailing me at [email protected] , prices from £2-00 upwards, priority to anyone ordering large numbers, serious offers considered for the lot. Discounts for large purchaes.
I would like to thank the hardcore mafia for the harsh lessons teaching me so much about the inner workings of the music and club scene, and for showing me just how corrupt it can be, and alerting me to loads of very common scams and tricks.
It has been like serving a very long music business and production knowledge course, to anyone out there that wants some advice ...
1. Less Is More (Thanks to Slipmatt for that advice) - sometimes it is easy to overcrowd a track by putting too much in, although there is a balance between too much and too little.
2. Be Careful - It has surprised me actually how many so called 'big players' would sell their grandma to make some money, never mind pissing on you whilst you line their pockets. Don't trust what many people tell you. There are many 100 % genuine major DJ's past and present (you know who you are) that I still have 100% respect for after all this time, there are also some very untrustworthy ones that I have lost every ounce of respect for.
3. Don't Sell Yourself Short - Realise that you are not doing promoters 'favours' when you charge peanuts for a gig, no matter what you think most of them are not real 'friends' and would not pay you extra if they made a good profit. Similarly most labels will end up paying peanuts too, obviously I must have been a monkey to some of them !
Finally I would like to thank everyone who I have met, had the pleasure of playing records in front of, anyone who has bought or enjoyed one of my tracks, and to anyone who has supported the scene.

RIAA gets heavy on selling DJ Mixes |
|
DJ Mag is running a story about the RIAA clamping down on DJ mixes for sale that are unlicensed. According to the article:
They (the RIAA) have already confiscated $100,000’s worth of mix CDs from independent record stores across the US.
With news like this from American and our UK news posting about illegal tape packs last week it finally seems that electronic artists and labels have said enough is enough and what is considered fair has now crossed the line. |

Publishers / Labels / Artists lay it down to live recordings |
|
Illegal tape packs have long been tolerated somewhat in the hardcore scene for a few years now, the somewhat dodgy recordings and the fact they were on tape allowed these releases to sit in a gray area of the hardcore scene.
With the recent release of the Slammin NYE CD pack (unknown to everyone prior to release), several labels, artists and publishers are now taking legal action against these all forms of live recordings and have placed bans on all live recordings in any form (tape or CD) and live recording sales.
This is good news for hardcore artists, finally the people that are making the music can get money from legally licensed material instead of bootleg rips offs. |

This is not new news as already reported by HappyHardcore.com a few months back that Mike Di Scala is the main man in the hardcore group Re-con, but what is news is that Mike Di Scala is also working on Gabba tunes under another yet to be named alias.
In other Ultrabeat news, Ultrabeat have also just completed a remix of Your Shining for AATW (All around the world - Ultrabeats record label). Your Shining by Breeze & Styles (Raver Baby) will see a commercial release from AATW later this year. |

10,000 members! |
|
10,000 members!
What an amazing achievement! HappyHardcore.com has passed 10,000 members! It's very rare for any website to have this amount of members and community support let alone a hardcore music site. HappyHardcore.com normally does not take a personal view on news but I (DJ Silver) can't help to feel a little emotional about this achievement, I started this site out of my apartment 4 years ago as a hobby, it's now my full time job, to have such support for a site that I created makes me proud I have done something for hardcore music, the music I love.
We have put together a date line of membership signups:
10,000 members - January 22nd 2004
9,000 members - October 27th 2003
8,000 members - July 17th 2003
7,000 members - April 24th 2003
6,000 members - February 6th 2003
5,000 members - November 18th 2002
4,000 members - September 2nd 2002
3,000 members - June 6th 2002
2,000 members - March 17th 2002
No records kept prior to 2,000 members.
If your wondering who the 10,000th member was it was a member by the name of "dj dupont" - There is no prize or anything just a statistic.
What else can we say? Hardcore is alive and kicking into overdrive, today's membership of HappyHardcore.com shows that whatever happens there will always be hardcore music supporters all over the world.
I have to say a big thank you to all the members, supporters and moderators of the site over the years, people that have put time into the site, submitting data and offering improvement ideas. I want to say a special thank you to Virus from Canada he has been with the site from the start and without his knowledge and help alot of track ID's would not have been filled :) Virus has also send us 90% of the label scans in the record database! Big thanks to Nami (the silent moderator) who has done all our Japanese translations for us, your the best and the Japanese site would be nothing without you, your a true friend. I also want to say a big thanks for more recently to DJ Comet, he has provided valuable support for the things like the radio station and also the record DB. Another thanks to Milo and Oli G who have also supplied alot of the events in the event system. Thanks to all the DJ's on HappyHardcore.com Radio, without you there is no station - thanks for making us number 1.
I want to say thanks to all these people that have helped on HappyHardcore.com in one way or another during it's lifetime - All the regulars in the chat room, all the forum posters (new and old), all the members of HappyHardcore.com, customers of Shop.HappyHardcore.com and our T-shirt shop, Kink / Gobstoppa / Virus and all the TSR crew (you guys rock!), Anne & Oli @ Rumour, Mark & Melissa @ React, Ari / Entrance / Wavesound @ DI, Duncan & Andrew @ MoS, Jas / Kathy / Jim / Al @ IMO, Oli @ Choice (sorry about everything), Kev / Bex / Rory @ NuEnergy, Chucky / Taka @ Guhroovy / RNBJ, Sage @ Phusion, Tyco / Jules @ Outerspace, Nick @ Midex, Horn @ LPU, Weaver @ One Stop, Mikel @ Overdrive, Sam @ Powerhouse, Ryan @ Destiny, Uraken and the old Q records crew, Gavin & Duncan @ MixMag, Richard @ Tidy, Dek / Matt @ Beats24-7, Rich / Dan @ Blizzard, Tomohiro @ avex, Mizukoshi @ BPM, Kaneko @ Victor, Richard @ Mobeneko, Brisk @ Next Gen, Sy @ Quosh, Luna-C / Deluxe @ KF, Scott @ Evolution, Paul @ USH, All the DFM boys, Elation crew, HyperBeatz, Electronic, and all the people I forgot, don't be offended if I missed you there are simply thousands of people I know from this site and I would have missed some of you. |

Speed Trance - Type 4 - Mixed by DJ Silver |
|
DJ Silver of HappyHardcore.com and MasterWax records has teamed up with Victor JVC Japan to produce a new "speed trance" hardcore album for the Japan market. The CD is entitled "Speed Trance - Type 4"
The tracks on the CD contain several new unreleased and unheard as of yet MasterWax tunes as well as a host of other Japanese hardcore producers and very hard edged trance. The speed concept for hardcore albums is not a new one, this is the fourth in the series of Speed Trance CD's from Victor JVC and there are other many "speed" entitled hardcore / trance crossover albums released in Japan that are also very popular.
This CD will only be released in Japan, it may be imported to other countries but as the entire packaging is in Japanese there are no guarantees. HappyHardcore.com will keep everyone informed on these movements.
The CD is released today 14th of Jan 2004 - Check out the tracklist here and you can order here (note this is a Japanese release as such the order site is partly in Japanese - Press "Display in English" for English guidance)

Who's doing hardcore this week? |
|
The new CD Original Hardcore 3 features three tracks from artists that grab our attention. The Warp brothers have been a massive trance unit for many years now and now are "back to basics" on this CD with a hardcore track. Ultrabeat have a hardcore mix on this CD, not a Breeze mix or a Hixxy mix, but a hardcore mix from the group Ultrabeat you know them as the group that charted with a trance cover in the UK national charts with Pretty Green Eyes. Last but not least the artist Re-con, this is an alias that Mike Di Scala from Ultrabeat uses to produce hardcore, this is his second hardcore release.
All artists are major players in the (commercial) dance scene, all now producing hardcore. |

Original Hardcore 3 is set for release 24th of Jan 2004! - Released by Inspired/INCredible (aka Ministry of Sound) this time around the triple CD release is mixed by Dougal and Styles with the 3rd disc containing a classic happy hardcore mix by the duo. This release kind of came out of no where with no information released to regular hardcore news outlets (like this site).
Original hardcore is a commercially released CD that has featured TV adverts in the past. We will have more information very soon on this release including a pre-order link. But now you can all take a gander at the tracklist and cover artwork.

Tidy comment on hardcore involvement |
|
niteclubbers.net have asked a question directly to Tidy's Creative Director - Amadeus Mozart also from the Tidy Boys regarding Tidy's involvement in hardcore after our news posting about Tidy and hardcore earlier this week.
Q: Happyhardcore.com have suggested you might be putting out some hardcore tunes under the tidy banner....what is your response to this? Will we be seeing tidy hardcore?
A: "We are not putting out any HARDCORE on our labels or setting a up hardcore labels. Our online store www.tidy.com may stock some hardcore releases but thats as far as it goes. - We will continue with putting on hardcore arenas at our events - and we are planning something bigger for hardcore fans."
"Planning something bigger for hardcore fans" - to us this directly confirms Tidy's involvement in hardcore. Tidy state the will not release any hardcore on their labels but it looks like they are targeting the hardcore scene for something that is at least 100% hardcore.
Why are we making such a fuss about Tidy's involvement in hardcore? Tidy have a very strong brand name, they release high production quality hard house material that has a large fan base and is very popular worldwide. We are quite sure the Tidy fan's out there would love the hardcore sound, they just need to first know what is hardcore and hear it, this is where Tidy would come in. We will keep everyone posted.

Here's the clues: Tidy trax has a major hardcore room at its events now, it is home to the Stimulant DJ's (aka Brisk & Ham) and what better way to get your customers used to the hardcore sound than to stock and sell other hardcore releases before releasing and selling your own material. |

Vinylgroover is back doing hardcore |
|
Vinylgroover is back doing hardcore. Vinylgroover is playing the main room in the upcoming hardcore event in the UK called Uproar. We have also heard news that he is producing new hardcore material. We are unsure if it will get released or not but seeing he is playing the main room and has not DJed hardcore in the UK for at least 2-3 years if would be a safe bet he should play some new own material.
